Mathew Cullen directed London Fields, a 2018 mystery thriller film with a script by Roberta Hanley and Martin Amis, based on Amis’ 1989 novel of the same title. The film stars Billy Bob Thornton as Samson Young, a terminally sick writer who has been suffering from writer’s block for 20 years. Amber Heard, Jim Sturgess, Theo James, Jason Isaacs, Cara Delevingne, Obi Abili, and Jaimie Alexander round out the cast.
It was scheduled to be screened in the Special Presentations section of the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival,[4], but it was later removed from the festival roster after director Mathew Cullen sued the film’s producers, accusing them of fraud and using his name to promote a cut of the film he does not support. After the producers settled a separate lawsuit with Cullen, London Fields was released theatrically in the United States on October 26, 2018, it was a critical and commercial flop.
Johnny Depp has an uncredited cameo as Chick Purchase. His character is loosely based on darts legend Bobby George.
Amber Heard was nominated in the Worst Actress category at the 39th Golden Raspberry Awards.
