Johnny is on the first place in The Fandango Hot List: The Top 10 Sexiest Men in 2009 Movies, according to women and on the second, according to men. Of course, according to j-d.org,he is the eternal number one!
1. Johnny Depp: Public Enemies
Let’s face it: women love Johnny. Depp previously led Fandango’s 2007 Hot List for his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in the third Pirates of the Caribbean movie, and as long as he has a new movie coming out, he’ll be a hard man to beat. After a string of colorful roles where Depp mastered a variety of English accents, he finally gets to play a Midwesterner, legendary criminal John Dillinger, in the summer gangster epic Public Enemies. Depp fans are also curious to see how his brief performance will factor into Heath Ledger’s last movie, The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus, currently seeking an American distributor for a 2009 release. Depp-mania continues to rule the Internet, with recent announcements that he’ll star in a fourth Pirates movie, a Lone Ranger remake, and as the Mad Hatter, a role that he was born to play in Tim Burton’s live-action Alice in Wonderland, due in 2010. Now the only question that remains is this: when will Johnny get his long-overdue Oscar?
During a recent interview, Alan Rickman has let slip some more details about Tim Burton?s upcoming film Alice In Wonderland. Rickman will play the Caterpillar, starring alongside Burton regulars Johnny Depp and Helene Bonham Carter as well as the likes of Anne Hathaway, Michael Sheen and Crispin Glover.
Here?s what he had to say:
?I?m a voice, but I have been filmed because it?s my face who will be on the end of something that will be the caterpillar. So it?s the first time that they?ve mixed three disciplines, I suppose ? live action, animation, and stop motion. I think I?m part of the animation bit, and I saw Helena [Bonham-Carter] and Crispin Glover yesterday. They?re a mixture of the two, actually, because there?s Helena in a costume and in makeup but her head is going to be made three times bigger than it actually is on top of the costume.?
?I don?t know what it (the Caterpillar) looks like, so I?ve only done the first stage of it, which is them recording me saying these lines quite badly. Then, somewhere down the line, they?ll have animated it and I?ll redo it.?
Johnny-Depp.org has been honored to have been granted an exclusive interview with the director of Gonzo the film, Alex Gibney. This film is of course about Hunter Thompson, Johnny’s very close friend. If you have not seen the film yet since it was released only in limited place, you can now rent the DVD in the United States! The film will also be premiering across the globe on Friday December 19th, 2008. This is a must have for your collection and we hope that you will all see it and enjoy learning about a special individual in Johnny’s life.

He was a tortured soul with an energy that was phenomenal. Hunter Thompson, formed and shaped by the most controversial generation that the United States ever had, was the man that helped to change writing and journalism as it is known today. He was known for his flamboyant writing style, Gonzo Journalism, which blurred the distinction between writer and subject. He was a visionary and an ?in your face? opinionated force to be dealt with. His imagery was too much for many who could not comprehend his perception on politics and life in general.
The independent film, ?Gonzo,? concentrates on Thompson as the unique individual he was. Oscar nominated and Academy Award winner, director Alex Gibney brings about a raw perspective on the inner thoughts of Hunter as only Gibney can. The project was brought to Alex nearly three years ago and the director expresses, ?I had no idea what I was in for. Hunter was somebody who didn?t play by the rules-he used biting humor to show people how politicians lie to us. So I thought it would be a good idea to go back and look at him as a writer.? When asked what he took away from the film he states, ?The most satisfying part of the journey was through the words of the man himself.? Alex is known for his brutal honesty in the films he directs. The movie ?Gonzo? is no exception, as the viewer is able to see the true Hunter in his life?s work and goals.
Johnny Depp whose melodic voice reading Hunter?s writing, opens the film, had a connection to the writer that expands the understanding. Yet, their relationship was one of mutual admiration. When inquired about Johnny?s participation in the film Alex shares; ?It wasn?t until Johnny saw a rough cut of the film, that he realized he wanted to be a part of it. When Hunter was alive he actually went and lived with Hunter in Hunter?s Owl Farm house. He shadowed Hunter and he became Hunter for a period of time, and he even put up 2 million bucks for that spectacular funeral.? Johnny and Hunter shared a kindred spirit and any film would not have been complete without input from Depp. Gibney shared, ?We pursued Johnny over four continents.? Many have been astounded at Depp?s accurate portrayal of the writer, stating that Johnny snatched Thompson?s very soul during his role in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
Thompson was called psychotic and accused of having no grip on reality and yet, he was constantly surrounded by the minions. Attracting all those that came in contact with him, either fueled by hate or obsession. Hunter thought and lived on a plain that none could share. A true gypsy and pirate if there ever was one, Mr. Thompson?s day to day existence continued to push the limit of consciousness and mentality. He was quoted as saying, ?The only difference between the sane and the insane,
Johnny Depp guests on Glenn Tilbrook & The Fluffers’ new album Pandemonium Ensues, out on February 16. Depp, who plays guitar on Too Close To The Sun, is a Squeeze fan, and his wife Vanessa Paradis sings on Interest And Love. Produced by Tilbrook, it’s his first LP since 2004’s Transatlantic Ping Pong.
We are proud to announce the release of GONZO, in cinemas in the United Kingdom on December 19th.
This great film about Dr. Hunter Thompson is now available in the United States and on the internet on DVD. Lizzy, from our site was fortunate enough to be able to ask the director Alex Gibney a few questions for an interview. This article will be posted on Monday.
In case you missed the trailer and screencaps, here are the links once again, for your viewing pleasure:
Mr. Depp now claims the top spot on the IMDb’s STARmeter for the fifth year in a row — even though his biggest appearances of the year were on the red carpet of the Oscars (where he was nominated for Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street) and at the MTV Movie Awards, where he snagged trophies for both Sweeney Todd and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End. And fans couldn’t stop talking about his upcoming roles in Michael Mann’s Public Enemies (as John Dillinger) and Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland (as the Mad Hatter), as well as salivating at the concept of him playing The Riddler in the next Batman flick. Check back with us next year to see if that comes to fruition — we’re sure he’ll be somewhere at the top of this list again!
It?s a well known fact among all those that follow Johnny, Pirates or Disney that the character of Jack Sparrow will no longer be at the Disneyland park. HOWEVER, the news that Jack was ?fired? from Disneyland because of flashing and inappropriate incidents (as stated in San Diego Tribune, ktla, TMZ.com and The Tribune) are categorically inaccurate. ?The Boob statement was totally not true and never happened at all.? states Brandon Pinto, whose quote to the SDTribune was misconstrued and now misquoted by these publications. Other individuals quoted in the Tribune article have not and do not work for the park in anyway. ?All Disney employees are held to a very high standard and these false incidents were in no way shape or form the cause of Jacks disappearance from the park as far as I know.? Pinto expressed. Disney?s official statement that these rumors are false, also match with the truth that Jack was moved to another part of the park and his numbers went down. Of course Jack will return to the park in booming popularity in the coming years as POTC 4 opens!
