About the Film

A childless baker and his wife long for a family, but discover they are under a curse laid by the witch next door. To lift it, they must venture into the woods and gather four items before the third midnight — a cow as white as milk, a cape as red as blood, hair as yellow as corn and a slipper as pure as gold — sending their quest crashing into a tangle of familiar fairy tales.

As their paths cross those of Cinderella, Jack (of beanstalk fame), Rapunzel and Little Red Riding Hood, everyone seems to get the “happily ever after” they wished for. But the second half of Stephen Sondheim’s beloved musical darkens: wishes carry consequences, a vengeful giant descends, and the characters must reckon with grief, responsibility and what it truly costs to get what you want.

Johnny Depp

Johnny Depp appears in a featured cameo as the Big Bad Wolf who menaces Little Red Riding Hood, styled by costume designer Colleen Atwood as a sly, zoot-suited predator inspired by the leering wolves of classic Tex Avery cartoons. His single show-stopping number, “Hello, Little Girl,” is a deliberately unsettling burst of charm — a small but memorable turn in the star-studded ensemble.
