Pirates 2: The Deadly Davy Jones

Articles by Martina

Meet Jack Sparrow’s nemesis – by Steve Head.

**May Contain Spoilers**

IGN – To many Pirates, Davy Jones is a frightening myth. They tell stories of “those who have disturbed him” – entire crews being killed, and their ships pulled to the bottom of the sea, trapped in his locker. There have been a few survivors of these phantom encounters. (Their lives were spared to tell the tale.) They liken the experience to staring death in the face.

“I’ll tell you this,” says Bill Nighy, the actor who plays Davy Jones in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, “If you are so unlucky as to stand before him, then it’s true: you are staring death in the face, and he’ll kill you without question.”

There are few things that will deter Jack Sparrow if a tidy profit is involved. Without getting into spoilers here, we’ll just say, in pursuit of his next treasure, he isn’t entirely aware of the consequence involved.

“Most don’t have any idea what Davy will do because they don’t expect it,” Nighy tells IGN FilmForce. “It isn’t that he’s an entirely predatory killer. He’s not out to simply kill pirates. He’s out to kill the pirates who trespass upon his territory. Death has always surrounded him, and he spends considerable time arranging for the destruction of such adversaries. Unfortunately [Sparrow] looks where he ought not to, and stirs up trouble as such that the price he’ll pay is more than he initially considered.”

Acclaimed Director Bails On Johnny Depp Flick

Projects by Martina

AUTHOR: Terri

Filmfodder.com – Director Peter Weir has exited “Shantaram,” the Warner Brothers adaptation of the Gregory David Roberts novel starring and produced by Johnny Depp, according to Variety – by Shannon Nolley.

Several sources speculated that Weir and Depp were unable to reach agreement about the direction of the film.

However, a spokesman for Warner said that the conflict was not limited to Depp. “Peter moved on from this film because his interpretation of it differed greatly than that of the studio and producers,” the spokesman said.

Depp remains entrenched in the project. In addition to his role as the story’s lead character Lindsay, Depp’s company Infinitum Nihil is producing. It was apparently Depp who convinced the studio to strike the $2 million deal for the book’s film rights.

While Warner has just begun its search for a new director, the studio remains optimistic that production will start by Spring 2007.

PIRATE EXPERT WARNS DEPP AGAINST DIGGING FOR MORGAN

Projects by Martina

PR Inside – The world’s foremost pirate expert has warned JOHNNY DEPP not to start digging up his Bahamas island retreat looking for HENRY MORGAN’s buried treasure because he won’t find a doubloon.

DAVID CORDINGLEY, the author of UNDER THE BLACK FLAG: THE
ROMANCE & REALITY OF LIFE AMONG THE PIRATES
, has exploded the myth that islands like Depp’s Little Halls Pond Cay are where Caribbean pirates like Morgan hid the gold and silver they plundered.

“My research tells me pirates didn’t bury their treasure. I mean, what’s the point? “Your average pirate captured a ship or raided a port and then went ashore and blew all his money on wine, women and gambling.

“The whole treasure island thing is really all down to ROBERT LOUIS STEVENSON and his book TREASURE ISLAND. The influence of that book is quite fantastic.

“I don’t think Johnny Depp will find buried treasure on his island.” The actor’s retreat, for which he paid a reported $3.5 million (

“Platoon” special edition features alternate ending

Uncategorized by Martina

Home News Tribune Online – By MIKE SNIDER for USA TODAY. Oliver Stone considers the new “Platoon 20th Anniversary Collector’s Edition” an improvement over the three previous DVD editions of his 1986 best-picture winner.

This version has been remastered for slightly better visuals and adds scenes with then-rising star Johnny Depp.

The new two-disc edition (now available for $25), Stone says, “is the fullest intention of the filmmaker.”

“The Platoon 20th Anniversary Collector’s Edition” DVD has about 11 extra minutes, plus five new documentaries. Director Oliver Stone, a Vietnam veteran, discusses making the film:

An alternate ending – “Chris (Charlie Sheen) decides not to shoot Sgt. Barnes (Tom Berenger). Stone says he felt torn about the ending. “When the kid walks out of the jungle, he’s also a killer. That was the point: In a war, it stains everybody.”

More Depp – “A foxhole scene gives more screen time to Johnny Depp as Pvt. Lerner. “He went on to do “21 Jump Street,’ ” Stone says. “I wish I could have kept that in.”

Stone’s triumph – “Platoon” went on to win best-picture, director, sound and editing Oscars, and it took in $139 million in the United States. “At the time, I completely felt rejected by the system, and when (“Platoon”) came around, it was the hit of the year,” Stone says. “It swept the country. Not just the country,

Uncategorized by Martina

HOLLYWOOD – By WENN – Keith Richards’ tumble out of a coconut tree in Fiji will not stop him making a cameo appearance in forthcoming blockbuster Pirates of the Caribbean 3.

The Rolling Stones guitarist was diagnosed with a blood clot on his brain after the accident in April, but following skull surgery doctors have now confirmed he will be well enough to star in the sequel.

Tom Hollander, who plays Lord Cutler Beckett in the movies, admits, “I’m really looking forward to meeting him… We were all worried when we heard about Keith’s fall, but we’ve just heard that he’s still going to appear in the film.”

You seem somewhat familiar. Have I threatened you before?

Projects by Martina

The Star – The film, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl inspired by a popular Walt Disney theme park ride; may have been an average affair if it weren’t for Johnny Depp’s performance as a likeable pirate. It is practically legendary now that Depp has loosely based Sparrow’s look and personality on rock n roller Keith Richards. Apparently, the excessive makeup on Depp’s face came to be when the crew put it on for filming in the cave so the character doesn’t look washed out on film.

Then the crew realised how cool the makeup looked on Depp, they continued to use it on him for the rest of the movie. And those gold teeth are real… Depp had his dentist implant them into his mouth for the production. The then Disney executive Michael Eisner thought there were too many and asked him to remove all but a few…
