Tokyo – The crowds at the airport said it all. Hundreds, perhaps thousands of Japanese fans, mostly women, greeted superstar actor Johnny Depp as he arrived at Tokyo’s Narita Airport. Wearing shades, a brown jacket, t-shirt, blue jeans and a gray hat, Depp smiled and waved as he strode past the overflowing crowd on his arrival in Tokyo to promote his latest film, “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.” – By Daniel L. Smith.
The turnout for the airport arrival was just the first of what appeared to be “Depp Mania” as the actor joined director Tim Burton and producer Richard D. Zanuck in promoting the film’s Japan premiere.
The trio appeared together at a packed press conference, held at the Imperial Hotel, where Depp talked about his role in the film and his relationship with Burton. Burton has been at the helm of two other movies starring the talented actor Edward Scissorhands, and Sleepy Hollow.
“Tim and I talked early on in the process,” Depp said of the discussions the director and actor had about the character development of Charlie Wonka prior to the start of filming. “Once I found him, it was pretty easy to get there,” Depp added.

He looks…SO HOT!
TOKYO (AFP) – Johnny Depp has been branded an eccentric for playing a recluse with scissors for hands and a delusional Don Juan. This time his own son is calling him a weirdo for his role as crazy candyman Willy Wonka.
The Hollywood heartthrob said he invited his children to watch him dress up in his slick jacket and top hat to shoot “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” the latest film version of British writer Roald Dahl’s kids classic.
Depp, in Tokyo Sunday ahead of the Japanese release of Tim Burton’s movie, said his three-year-old son was astonished and told his dad, “You are really weird”.

Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka WITH his talent and looks, he would be forgiven for being loud and obnoxious. – By Peter Mitchell – September 01, 2005.
Women love him and men have a right to be jealous of him. But on a steamy afternoon at the Atlantis Resort in The Bahamas, Johnny Depp is as gentle and sheepish as a sober nerd at a school formal. Deeply tanned from six months in the sun, Depp has taken a short break from shooting the Pirates Of The Caribbean sequels near the resort to chat about Charlie And The Chocolate Factory. He speaks in whispers, is polite and intelligent and sweet.
It was not always the way, he says. As a kid his mother had a special name for him.
“She used the term hellion,” laughs Depp. “I wasn’t obnoxious but I was curious. There were a lot of practical jokes. I got on her nerves basically. I pissed her off quite frequently.”
Depp is a Hollywood chameleon, switching from dirty Jack Sparrow to tidy playwright James Barrie in Finding Neverland, Constable Ichabod Crane in Sleepy Hollow to Edward Scissorhands.
Now he is Willy Wonka, the weird chocolate mogul in Charlie And The Chocolate Factory, the remake of the Roald Dahl classic.
