Of course our news from yesterday, April 1st, that Johnny received an honorary Doctorite from Western Kentucky University were completely made up. It was or April fools joke for this year.
So, to everyone who believed it: April Fools!!

A deathly pale Johnny Depp stands on a cliff the long tails of his velvety jacket flapping wildly in the breeze. He drops to his knees at the edge, a look of confused horror across his face as he stares down into the abyss…
“CUT!”
The ground-shuddering whir of two gigantic wind machines comes to a halt and Depp gets up and dusts himself off as an army of production staff scurry onto the set, preparing for the next take. “Bella, you good?” shouts the formidable First AD from the grassy verge. There’s a short, nervous pause, before a disembodied female voice pipes up from the giant blue crashmat below… “Yeah. That was so much fun!”
It’s September 2010 and Total Film has travelled to Pinewood Studios, where Tim Burton is in the final phase of shooting his Dark Shadows — a twisted take on a cult ’60s/’70s TV favourite. Regular mucker Depp is playing Barnabas Collins, an 18th Century fish-canning magnate turned into a bloodsucker and buried by vengeful witch Angelique Bouchard (Eva Green), only to be dug up two centuries later in an alien-looking 1972. The ‘Bella’ currently scrambling to her feet, meanwhile, is Aussie actress Bella Heathcote, the young starlet playing Barnabas’ doomed (or is she?) lover,
Yes it has finally happened! On Sunday May 13th Johnny will receive an honorary Doctorite from Western Kentucky University.
Dr. John Christopher Depp, will have a Doctorate of Fine Arts.
The degree is in honor of his study and understanding of theater and preforming arts and sciences, also including his musical talent and ability. Individuals of national or international prominence whose contributions have enhanced society as a whole.Nominations for honorary degrees are solicited from the campus community, and recipients are selected by a committee of faculty members. Western Kentucky University awards honorary degrees to individuals who have made exemplary contributions to the University, the state, the nation, or the world. Recipients of honorary degrees will be recognized for their general excellence and for their extraordinary achievements in areas of human endeavor which reflect the ideals and objectives of the University.
The degree will be presented to Johnny by Professor by Cheryl Stevens the Dean of Science and Engineering at WKU.
The University is located close to Johnny’s hometown Owensboro. The Commencement Ceremony will take place at 2:30pm at RiverPark Center .
President Gary Ransdell of the univeristy will be presiding.

In other news, “Dark Shadows” won the award for the Best Production to Work On, given by the The Film Artistes Association. You can read more about it HERE
Also, thanks to Dark Shadows News, we learned that Warner Bros will be promoting Dark Shadows at the trade event CinemaCon, which takes place on April 24 in Las Vegas. The presentation is expected to include sneak peek footage from the movie with personnel from the film in attendance.
