Filming on the first week of shooting for Rob Marshall’s eagerly awaited stage-to-screen adaptation of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s celebrated fairy tale-themed musical INTO THE WOODS starring Meryl Streep and Johnny Depp is now complete and the soundtrack is already nearing completion according to Tweets by cast-members shared this week.

Rob Marshall’s Into the Woods to be based at Shepperton

The Disney version of Sondheim’s Into the Woods, directed by Rob Marshall (Chicago), is to be based at Shepperton and begins shooting in the UK in September.

The feature will star Meryl Streep as the witch, with Johnny Depp as the big bad wolf (Depp starred in Tim Burton’s 2007 film adaptation of Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd). Other cast members include Emily Blunt, Jake Gyllenhaal and Chris Pine.

The Disney version is set for a Christmas Day 2014 release
