Universal did a test screening for Johnny’s upcoming movie Public Enemies – still without a real score in place, color timed, and still 2 hours 40 minutes long.

“The cast is excellent – everyone. Johnny Depp is charming and funny and Bale does a fine “serious man-on-a-mission” is written in a review over at aintitcool (careful reding – it contains SPOILERS!!!)

“Felon jacked me up, and going into Public Enemies
after that, it was an intense five-month movie with director Michael Mann. I feel like I?m doing some of the best stuff I?ve done now, Stephen Dorff told us.

But as intense as it was, Dorff was thankful for the experience. “It?s trippy because I grew up watching guys like Johnny and respecting those choices of Sean Penn and Johnny Depp who did all these cool, smaller movies,” he said.

“To me it was always about breaking those rules
and that?s what guys like Johnny did. And then a funny little pirate movie changed his life.” he adds.

This was in the People magazine. Sure they are talking about the other day when Johnny wrapped filming in chicago and was seen at the steakhouse having dinner. (see previous post)

Johnny Depp, hosted a private wrap party for his film Public Enemies at Gibsons Bar & Steakhouse in Chicago. The actor invited about 50 people ? and the wine was flowing. The private party (which included the film’s director Michael Mann) came and left through the kitchen to keep a low profile.

It’s official.

The final scenes for director Michael Mann’s film “Public Enemies” starring Johnny Depp as John Dillinger are now in the can and the film is entirely shot and finished.

As film insiders have said all along, this $80-million flick by Universal Studios was one of the largest productions to hit the Chicago area and Northwest Indiana in recent years.

And since this movie, about the Feds trying to take down notorious American gangsters Dillinger, Baby Face Nelson and Pretty Boy Floyd during a booming crime wave in the 1930s, required a slew of extras, it’s understandable how the buzz surrounding the project continued to find even greater interest as the filming progressed since the first day of shooting March 17 up in Madison, Wis., before the cast and crew made their way to Crown Point to shoot for the full week following Easter Sunday.

There’s also no arguing that it was an aggressive project, to say the least, considering it was only scheduled for 69 shooting days, according to Depp’s contract. Universal Pictures is set to open the film in theaters in July 2009.

The final hurrah for the film before everyone, including Depp, packs up and heads out of town, was Friday night’s wrap party, thrown by Mann.
