Johnny Will Be Back for Fantastic Beasts 3

Johnny confirmed he will be back as Gellert Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts 3.

As the title reveals, Johnny has just confirmed that he will reprise his villainous role as Gellert Grindelwald in the third instalment of the Fantastic Beasts film series.

As you probably already know (and can’t await!) the second film, The Crimes of Grindelwald, will be released on November 16, but producers are clearly already looking ahead to the next film in J.K. Rowling’s latest wizarding movie series. Johnny confirmed his involvement in the as-yet-untitled third film in a new interview, telling Collider that he and his fellow castmates will begin production on Fantastic Beasts 3 ‘in the middle of next year’. The actor said he relished the challenge of playing a villain in a fictional realm where ‘the possibilities… are wide open, so you can really try anything.’

Johnny Speaks Out on His Grindelwald Casting

For the first time, Johnny speaks out on his casting of Grindelwald and defends J.K. Rowling.

After being criticized for the casting of Gellert Grindelwald in the upcoming Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald movie, Johnny finally spoke out to Entertainment Weekly. A few months ago, the creator of the Harry Potter universe herself, J.K. Rowling had defended Johnny’s casting as Grindeldwald, and just now it had been Johnny’s turn to defend J.K. Rowling’s comments about his casting.

J.K. had had justified Johnny’s inclusion in the film following allegations of physical abuse made by Johnny’s ex-wife Amber Heard. She issued a statement in December 2017 saying: “The film-makers and I are not only comfortable sticking with our original casting, but [are] genuinely happy to have Johnny playing a major character in the movies.”

In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly to promote the film, Johnny said:

“I’ll be honest … I felt bad for J.K. having to field all these various feelings from people out there … But ultimately, there is real controversy. The fact remains I was falsely accused … J.K. has seen the evidence and therefore knows I was falsely accused,

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald Final Trailer

The final official trailer for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald has been released.

I really suggest you simply go and see it for yourselves. The final trailer easily the darkest one yet and actually contains a couple big surprises. The headline coming out of this is that Claudia Kim’s character has been revealed and it’s a major name in the Harry Potter universe. The South Korean actress is playing Nagini — a human “Maledictus” who eventually becomes Lord Voldemort’s trusty snake. As we meet Nagini, she’s a member of the traveling Circus Arcanus where she puts on a very convincing transformation act for muggles. Check out EW’s exclusive new interview with Kim talking about her character here.

Another reveal: We see a glimpse of a flashback showing Dumbledore and Grindelwald back while they were students. That’s right, we now will have an even younger Dumbledore! It’s a brief shot in the trailer as they both touch the Mirror of Erised.

The trailer is also stuffed with magical action as an ensemble of characters prepare to contend with the dark wizard Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) following his escape from prison while being transferred to Europe.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald Back to Hogwarts Featurette

A new featurette for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald takes the Potterheads back to Hogwarts, school of witchcraft and wizardry.

Unforunately, the featurette does not contain any new scenes of Johnny as Gellert Grindelwald but I wanted to share the video anyways since I know that many of you are excited about the movie itself.

“I felt quite sentimental going back to Hogwarts,” author and Fantastic Beasts screenwriter J.K. Rowling admits in the featurette.

“Those names, the stories, the histories that sit in the back of our minds from the Potter series begin to weave their way into Beasts,” Fantastic Beasts star Eddie Redmayne muses in the featurette for the second film in the Harry Potter prequel series.

But of course, this Hogwarts is not the one we grew to love over eight Harry Potter movies, with Fantastic Beasts taking place 70 years earlier. This is Hogwarts in the 1920s, and… it doesn’t look all too different. Other than the clothes by the teaching staff, the bright-eyed students in their Hogwarts robes all look oh-so familiar.

Hogwarts will probably be the one comforting feature of The Crimes of Grindelwald,

Johnny Makes Surprise Visit as Grindelwald at Comic-Con

Yesterday, July 21, Johnny made a surprise appearance at 2018 San Diego Comic-Con during the Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald portion of Warner Bros.’ panel in character as the evil wizard Grindelwald. For the majority of the presentation for the highly-anticipated wizarding world sequel, Johnny Depp wasn’t on stage and most in the crowd assumed that he simply was too busy to turn up at the event. However, toward the end of the showcase, he walked out on stage in full Grindelwald gear and delivered a speech in character.

The speech help by Johnn focuses on the “good of humanity.” It was a classic villain’s point of view monologue, ultimately about how a lot of people are going to suffer for what he perceives to be the greater good. Johnny wasn’t revealed until the very end of the first movie, but that set him up to be a major part of Fantastic Beasts 2 and, in all likelihood, a fixture of future movies in the planned-five movie franchise. Warner Bros. also revealed a brand new trailer for the movie during the SDCC panel which you can watch below.

A few photos taken of Johnny during his speech have been added to the photo gallery.
