Colorado mining town goes Hollywood

Movies News by Andrea

CREEDE – The Lone Ranger is getting the big screen big budget overhaul from power producer Jerry Bruckheimer.

And folks in the southwestern Colorado town of Creede couldn’t be happier. But while Hollywood may be new to the town, the arts are not.

“We got the Governor’s Art Award 2010 for the “Best Art Community in Colorado,” Mayor Eric Grossman said.

Not only does the movie put the mining town on the map, but many hope the entire state as well.

“Everybody around the world will see this movie,” Colorado Film Commissioner Donald Zuckerman said. “These movies in the past have done a million dollars at the box office.”

The film stars Armie Hammer Helena Bonam Carter and Johnny Depp. The movie is set to open July 3, 2013.

Creede preps for filming of ‘The Lone Ranger’

Movies News by Andrea

The narrow canyon north of town that was once home to thousands of men looking for the next big silver strike still has plenty of hustle and bustle.

But more than a century later, the hundreds of carpenters, craftsmen and other workers who’ve labored beneath the towering rock walls are looking to help Walt Disney Studios and “The Lone Ranger” strike it rich on the silver screen.

After 11 weeks of set construction, the film’s cast, which includes Johnny Depp, Armie Hammer and others, is expected to begin shooting here this week.

But curiosity seekers won’t have much of a chance to see any of the big names.

MTV Generation Award Acceptance Speech

Awards by Martina

“Steven just spit out one of my teeth,” explained Depp. “I’ll put it back in later. I gotta thank MTV for this—it’s quite an amazing honor. It’s like the Get Out of the Business Award, basically—it’s like, OK you’ve done too much. And clearly, based on the clips, there’s obviously something wrong with me. I just want to thank you very much. It’s an honor to be presented by these two legends and these two up and coming legends.”

Patti Smith Opens Up About ‘Banga,’ Johnny Depp, Amy Winehouse and Romanticizing Self-Destruction

General News Projects by Andrea

Also Johnny Depp. In fact, in the opening of “Banga,” it’s all Johnny Depp. He’s a friend of mine and he was filming “Rum Diary” [when] I got the idea for [the song] in my head. I told Johnny, “I don’t wanna forget this.” So he recorded me singing — like the first minute, I’m just singing a capella. Then Johnny said he would send it to me so I wouldn’t forget. So I’m waitin’ and waitin’ and he didn’t send it! I said, “Johnny, where’s ‘Banga’?” He said, “Oh, you’ll get it.” And [when] I got it, he’d put drums, guitars, everything [on it]! So the first minute of the song is all me and Johnny Depp. What we did in the recording studio [was] the band listened to Johnny’s track and then came in on the chorus.

Diamond In The Rough: Johnny Depp Performs With The Black Keys At MTV Movie Awards

Appearances Awards News by Andrea

Tonight’s MTV Movie Awards show has thus far been difficult to watch. The show portrays a totally backwards world — one where Charlie Sheen and Paris Hilton are somehow relevant again, but Ryan Gosling‘s performance in Drive is passé; where Russell Brand is considered “edgy”; and where vomitous “musicians” LMFAO can win awards.

Amongst all the faux-comedy, awkward award presentations, and excuses to air commercials for Axe body spray and the next season of Teen Moms, there lay a diamond in the rough: Johnny Depp performed with bluesy garage-rock stalwarts The Black Keys.

Johnny Depp To Receive MTV Generation Award At MTV Movie Awards

Appearances Awards News by Andrea

For nearly four decades now, Johnny Depp has been the definition of Hollywood cool, bringing his own iconic style to life on the small screen (in “21 Jump Street), in cult faves like “Ed Wood” and “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas,” and in big-screen smashes like “Sleepy Hollow,” “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and, of course, the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise.

So, in recognition of his achievements — and all that classic cool — Depp will be honored with the MTV Generation award at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards, broadcasting live on Sunday, June 3 at 9 p.m. ET/PT from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California.
