Johnny Depp the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory star reckons his next film should be a porn, according to German magazine Gala. FemaleFirst.co.uk. – August 11, 2005.

Depp has played a string of eccentric roles, including author J.M.Barrie in Finding Neverland and most famous Edward Scissorhands, even his latest role in Charlie and the chocolate factory and is a creepy incarnation of Willy Wonka in Chocolate Factory. Apparently the star is worried he will become typecast so the star says starring in a porn might save his career. “These kind of characters are not so far from my own personality, but I don’t want to become typecast as an eccentric,” said Depp.

He says a lot had changed since making the first film; but Johnny reckons as soon as the cameras were rolling, his fears were put at rest. “You didn’t quite know what to expect. But honestly you stepped back on to the set for the first day and it was like jumping back into the skin of Captain Jack,” said Depp.

“Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride” will make its North American debut at the Toronto Film Festival on Saturday, September 10, closely following its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival. Set in a 19th century European village, Corpse Bride tells the story of Victor (Depp), a young man who is whisked away to the underworld and wed to a mysterious “Corpse Bride” (Bonham Carter), while his real bride, Victoria (Watson), waits bereft in the Land of the Living. Though life in the Land of the Dead proves to be a lot more colorful than his strict Victorian upbringing, Victor learns that there is nothing in this world, or the next, that can keep him away from his one true love. It’s a tale of optimism, romance and a very lively afterlife, told in classic Tim Burton style.

Burton’s animated film rocks Venice

VENICE – An animated film based on a 19th-century Russian folk tale and described, as “low budget” by its director Tim Burton is the runaway success of the 62nd Venice film festival so far – Sunday Times.co.za.

Burton’s inventive, funny and touching movie featuring the voices of Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham-Carter earned loud and lengthy applause at the festival, where it is being shown out of competition.

“Corpse Bride” marks the fifth time the director has collaborated with Depp, who also starred in Burton’s “Edward Scissorhands”, “Ed Wood” and “Sleepy Hollow”.

There is a strong cast of accomplished character actors to complement the film’s stunning visuals.

Albert Finney and Joanna Lumley play Victoria’s pompous parents Finis and Maudeline Everglot, while Victor’s nouveau riche parents are voiced by Tracey Ullman and Paul Whitehouse.

The veteran actor Christopher Lee, known for his previous roles as Dracula, chillingly plays an authoritarian pastor.
