It was about half past 10 when Johnny Depp finally appeared before an adoring, patient crowd, who had waited hours to see the movie star outside St. Anne High School. Having changed out of his Dillinger-era get-up, Depp walked casually from behind the lot of movie trailers wearing an orange ?Gonzo? T-shirt and funky head sock.
Depp was in the area Thursday to film scenes for the movie, ?Public Enemies,? a Depression-era gangster film slated for a July 2009 release. In it, Depp plays notorious criminal, John Dillinger.
But few people cared about the film, they just wanted to meet the man. Once word got out that Depp was outside his trailer, the refrain came, ?We love you, Johnny.? And with each shout or blown kiss, the actor smiled appreciatively, making every effort to acknowledge fans with a wave or a nod. And the crowd ate it up. Young and old, everyone was a Depp fan in St. Anne on Thursday.

The 45-year-old star had seen the gathering crowd ? easily larger than the town?s population ? waiting for him throughout the hot summer day, as he went back and forth to the set, in a modified old farm house just outside of town.

Johnny Depp, filming “Public Enemies” this week at a Northern Wisconsin resort, will return to Chicago next month, insiders say. The thrice-nominated Oscar nominee will resume shooting May 9 downtown.

The John Dillinger-come-lately wraps the Depression-era saga here June 15.

Director Michael Mann, one for historical accuracy, is currently re-creating the shootout at the Little Bohemia Lodge in Manitowish Waters, where the FBI cornered the outlaw after he escaped from Lake County Jail. Dillinger eluded capture again, prompting the local joke, “Dillinger only left because he had to.”

A scoop: Billy Crudup (“Almost Famous”) has been cast as J. Edgar Hoover.

The first time we met (the pic of him in the hat and tan jacket smiling at me) was in columbus WI.
My friend and I had gotten there about 3pm and ten min later we saw him drive to set in his SUV. I remember my friend and I just looked at each other and said “this is going to be a GOOD day!” and it was! at about midnight Jerry told us that johnny would be coming out and shaking hands with everyone and that we could take pictures of him. when he came out my heart was going about a million beats per second! when he finally got to me i asked for a hug and he gave me one, then my friend was able to snap the pic of us smiling after. 🙂 love love this picture.

The second time was early thrusday morning about 4am. I had arrived in Columbus at noon on Wed and was there for eight hours before they even arrrived. I was walking around the set, sitting on the set lol, just enjoying seeing everything and taking pictures of everything i could. then finall at about 8:30pm the PE cast and crew arrived and began shooting. they shot from 9 until 3 and then johnny took an hour to relax. Jerry said pretty much the same thing that he wouldn’t be posing for pics, but Johnny totally did!! as is seen in one of the JD.org Columbus 2008 albums.

Johnny Depp appeared in the Escape episode of the TV show “This American Life”. He took his time to provided his wonderful voice by request for a 27-year old suffering from spinal muscular atrophy, narrating various of his e-mails.

The word on the street and in the LA times is that Johnny will be at the premiere of the Gonzo film tomorrow night. This is not confirmed but is a huge possibility. We know that Johnny has probably left Chicago and that the 7 more days of shooting will probably be there in LA.

It will be held at the ArcLight Cinema which is by Vine and Sunset.
Seats are limited.But they are not sold out.
