Plot Summary

William Blake (Johnny Depp), an accountant from Cleveland, Ohio, rides by train to the frontier company town of Machine to assume a promised job as a bookkeeper in the town’s namesake metal works. During the trip, a Fireman (Crispin Glover) warns Blake against the enterprise while passengers shoot buffalo from the train windows. Arriving in town, Blake discovers that his position has already been filled, and is driven from the workplace at gunpoint by John Dickinson (Robert Mitchum), the ferocious owner of the company. Jobless and without money or prospects, Blake meets Thel Russell (Mili Avital), a former prostitute who sells paper flowers. He lets her take him home. Thel’s ex-boyfriend Charlie (Gabriel Byrne) surprises them in bed and shoots Blake, accidentally killing Thel when she tries to shield Blake with her body. Plot Summary

In 1954 Baltimore, “Cry-Baby” Wade Walker (Johnny Depp) is the leader of a gang of “Drapes”. His ability to shed a single tear drives all the girls wild. Plot Summary

Vianne Rocher (Juliette Binoche) like her ancestors, drifts across France. In the winter of 1959, she travels to a tranquil French village, where she and her daughter, Anouk (Victoire Thivisol), open a small chocolaterie. The store imbues both wonder and angst within the classical villagers as it opens during the forty days of Lent.

Plot Summary

Willy Wonka has to find an heir for his candy factory and his beloved workers. To do this Willy puts 5 golden tickets in chocolate bars for 5 lucky children to visit the factory. The candy bars are sent all over the world. One of these five children is a boy named Charlie Buckett who is very poor and only gets one chocolate bar a year on his birthday, making his chance of getting ticket remote. On the last day before the contest closes Charlies finds a Golden Ticket. Plot Summary

The film opens to a young George (Jesse James) and his parents Fred (Ray Liotta) and Ermine (Rachel Griffiths). Fred files for bankruptcy and loses everything, but tries to convey to George that money is not important.

As an adult, George (Johnny Depp) moves to Southern California with his friend “Tuna” (Ethan Suplee) and they plan to earn a living by selling marijuana with the help of George’s girlfriend, Barbara Buckley (Franka Potente), an airline stewardess who introduces them to Derek Foreal (Paul Reubens), the main dealer. With Derek’s help, George and Tuna make a lot of money. Kevin Dulli (Max Perlich), a college student back in Boston, visits them and tells them of the enormous demand for pot in Boston. With Barbara’s help, they start bringing the drugs to Boston.

As the demand grows, they decide to start buying the drugs directly from Mexico with the help of a few Mexican drug lords.

Plot Summary

This feel good, yet moving film follows the lives of Benny and his mentally ill sister Joon,who tends to be a bit of a handful. Benny, who is in constant battle to keep his sister at home and out of a psychiatric ward, struggles to keep her under control, is constantly having to hire new home-nurses who will not stay due to Joon’s unmanageable nature. The tables turn, however, when after loosing a certain game, Joon brings home the odd cousin of Benny’s workmate, against Benny’s will. Known only as Sam, Benny appoints him as Joon’s temporary house maid, while he looks for another nurse. Fortunately for Benny, though, Sam’s eccentricities strikes a chord with Joon as she and the viewer observe his unusual habits, including his dress and cooking techniques, reminding us of the creative genius and subtle hero in film legends Chaplin and Keaton.

Plot Summary

Before Night Falls is based on the autobiography of the same name by Cuban poet and novelist Reinaldo Arenas. Arenas, who was openly gay, was born in Oriente in 1943 and raised by his single mother and grandparents who soon moved the entire family to Holguín. After moving to Havana in the sixties to continue his studies, Reinaldo started exploring his sexuality and ambitions. After finishing second in a writing contest, Arenas gets offered the chance to publish his first work. Through his work and friendships with other openly gay men (such as Pepe Malas and Tomas Diego), Arenas managed to find himself.

However, the political climate in Cuba continued to become increasingly dangerous and in the early seventies Arenas is arrested for sexually assaulting minors (a crime he was not guilty of) and publishing abroad without official consent. In the next decade Arenas keeps going in and out of prison, attempting to leave the country several times but failing each time.

Plot Summary

Spencer Armacost (Depp) is a NASA astronaut. While on a space-walking mission with a fellow astronaut Alex Streck, an explosion results in a communication loss for two minutes between the astronauts and Earth. After returning to their respective spouses, the two astronauts never speak about their ordeal. Not long after their return, Streck dies from a massive stroke. While still in mourning for her lost husband, his wife commits suicide by sitting in a running shower with an AC powered radio.

Spencer retires from NASA and takes an executive position in New York City. His wife Jillian (Theron) becomes pregnant with twins. She begins to notice changes in Spencer’s personality and becomes suspicious. She questions him about what happened during the time they lost contact.

Sherman Reese, a former NASA employee who had been fired after the astronauts’ return, contacts Jillian. He tells her that Spencer is not her husband. Originally, Jillian doesn’t believe Reese, but she starts to recognize similarities between his accounts and her husband’s behavior.
