Johnny Depp Is Said to Buy A Painting by Seattle Artist Kellie Talbot

General News by Andrea

Ballard-based artist Kellie Talbot makes tightly composed paintings of the eccentric American past of the mid-20th century. She pictures rusted old neon signs seen in daylight (so unlit, fallow), and at close range, as if you were up in their air.

They’re signs of a certain shared history that has splintered; you used to be able to find them all over, from Ballard to Vegas, in places that have since gone their separate ways, aesthetically and economically speaking. What they’re advertising may be gone, but these are such pretty hulks. If the paintings are nostalgic, that’s mitigated by the fact that the signs are suggested rather than seen whole, cut into fragments and details.

‘Lone Ranger’ Budget Back Up to $250 Million

Movies News by Andrea

When Disney briefly shut down the Johnny Depp western The Lone Ranger in August amid concerns about a budget that had ballooned to $250 million, the principals — including Depp, director Gore Verbinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer — agreed to cut action sequences and their own upfront fees to bring the cost down to about $215 million. Well, don’t look now, but Lone Ranger is riding headlong into budget trouble again.

Comic-Con 2012: Who’s in, who’s out

Appearances Movies News by Andrea

With Comic-Con a month away, Hollywood is firming up plans to haul its geek-friendly film fare to San Diego – though Paramount and 20th Century Fox have joined Relativity Media, DreamWorks and DreamWorks Animation in skipping the Hall H panels this year, with Universal still up in the air.
Disney and Marvel will return, however, after sitting out Comic-Con last year in favor of the Mouse House’s own D23 fanfest. Having tubthumped “Iron Man” and “The Avengers” at Cons past, a look at “Iron Man 3,” which only recently began production, is firmly expected during the confab, which runs July 12-15. Disney is also sure to showcase toon “Wreck-It Ralph” and “Oz: The Great and Powerful,” and possibly a presentation on “The Lone Ranger.”

Movies News by Andrea

CREEDE – The Lone Ranger is getting the big screen big budget overhaul from power producer Jerry Bruckheimer.

And folks in the southwestern Colorado town of Creede couldn’t be happier. But while Hollywood may be new to the town, the arts are not.

“We got the Governor’s Art Award 2010 for the “Best Art Community in Colorado,” Mayor Eric Grossman said.

Not only does the movie put the mining town on the map, but many hope the entire state as well.

“Everybody around the world will see this movie,” Colorado Film Commissioner Donald Zuckerman said. “These movies in the past have done a million dollars at the box office.”

The film stars Armie Hammer Helena Bonam Carter and Johnny Depp. The movie is set to open July 3, 2013.

Creede preps for filming of ‘The Lone Ranger’

Movies News by Andrea

The narrow canyon north of town that was once home to thousands of men looking for the next big silver strike still has plenty of hustle and bustle.

But more than a century later, the hundreds of carpenters, craftsmen and other workers who’ve labored beneath the towering rock walls are looking to help Walt Disney Studios and “The Lone Ranger” strike it rich on the silver screen.

After 11 weeks of set construction, the film’s cast, which includes Johnny Depp, Armie Hammer and others, is expected to begin shooting here this week.

But curiosity seekers won’t have much of a chance to see any of the big names.

Patti Smith Opens Up About ‘Banga,’ Johnny Depp, Amy Winehouse and Romanticizing Self-Destruction

General News Projects by Andrea

Also Johnny Depp. In fact, in the opening of “Banga,” it’s all Johnny Depp. He’s a friend of mine and he was filming “Rum Diary” [when] I got the idea for [the song] in my head. I told Johnny, “I don’t wanna forget this.” So he recorded me singing — like the first minute, I’m just singing a capella. Then Johnny said he would send it to me so I wouldn’t forget. So I’m waitin’ and waitin’ and he didn’t send it! I said, “Johnny, where’s ‘Banga’?” He said, “Oh, you’ll get it.” And [when] I got it, he’d put drums, guitars, everything [on it]! So the first minute of the song is all me and Johnny Depp. What we did in the recording studio [was] the band listened to Johnny’s track and then came in on the chorus.
