Johnny Depp gets hands and feet imprinted in Hollywood

General by Martina

LOS ANGELES – (AP) Johnny Depp scrawled his name and dipped his hands and feet in cement Friday in front of the Grauman’s Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard.

The ceremony coincided with the release of Depp’s latest film, the animated “Corpse Bride,” which opened in limited cities Friday. The movie expands to wide release next weekend.

“So this is weird,” Deep said before hundreds of fans who lined up to see the actor. “I mean, to say that this is overwhelming is probably the understatement of the millennium.”

Boy died ‘imitating Depp role’

General by Martina

BBC News – A 12-year-old boy accidentally killed himself as he tried to imitate Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean, an inquest has heard.

Scott Buckle, from Swansea, enjoyed watching the video of the Hollywood blockbuster on the night he died last February, his mother said. She said Scott apparently hanged himself as he copied a scene in which Depp’s character escapes a noose. A verdict of accidental death was recorded at the hearing in Swansea.

Among a series of possible contributory factors was the fact that Scott had suffered from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, reports the Daily Mail.

Despite receiving treatment for the condition, one of its symptoms is an unawareness of danger and an inability to appreciate risk.

Dr John Talbot, a psychiatrist from Morriston Hospital, Swansea, told the inquest that Scott’s background made it likely he would have identified with the anti-hero in the film played by Johnny Depp.

He added: “With attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, one of the facets, apparently, is that people are unaware of dangers around them.

Our deepest sympathy goes out to the family and friends of Scott Buckle in this very difficult time.

Riviera refugees find an island fit for stars

General by Martina

FORGET about luxury hotels, exclusive nightclubs and topless beaches. The French jet set are turning their backs on the hedonistic hot spots of the Riviera and seeking out more rustic pleasures on a windswept Atlantic island – by Matthew Campbell, Paris.

Part of the appeal is the low-key reception given to its more famous visitors. Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis might set off stampedes in Saint Tropez but caused scarcely a murmur when they appeared on the island this summer. Copyright 2005 Times Newspapers Ltd.

Friends gather for Thompson’s fireworks farewell

General by Martina

WOODY CREEK, Colorado (AP) — As the ashes erupted from a tower, red, white, blue and green fireworks lit up the sky over Thompson’s home near Aspen. Sunday, August 21, 2005.

The private celebration included actors Bill Murray and Johnny Depp, rock bands, blowup dolls and plenty of liquor to honor Thompson, who killed himself six months ago at the age of 67.

Anita Thompson said Depp paid for much of the celebration.

“We had talked a couple of times about his last wishes to be shot out of a cannon of his own design,” Depp told The Associated Press last month. “All I’m doing is trying to make sure his last wish comes true. I just want to send my pal out the way he wants to go out.”

Hunter Thompson’s ashes arriving in armored truck

General by Martina

WOODY CREEK – An armored truck hauling the pulverized remains of Hunter S. Thompson was en route to Owl Farm on Tuesday afternoon as swarms of workers sweated the last details of the offbeat writer’s ballyhooed funeral service. By Troy Hooper/Aspen Daily News Staff Writer – August 17, 2005.

The bulletproof truck is needed to ensure the public’s safety, according to Anita Thompson, the late author’s wife, because Thompson’s ashes have been sealed inside the tops of dozens of fireworks that will explode above his property on Saturday. Actor Johnny Depp is funding the event, which organizers estimate will cost roughly $2.5 million, to fulfill the vision that Thompson detailed in a 1978 BBC documentary and to his friends and family leading up to his suicide. Seated in front of his typewriter, Thompson shot himself in the head Feb. 20. He was 67.
