Tonight – June 22, 2006 – The Pirates Of The Caribbean actor – who lives in France with his long-term partner French star Vanessa Paradis – took a crash course in the language to keep up with his bilingual children.

He told Britain’s OK! magazine: “I still have the world’s worst French accent but I’m working on it.

Depp revealed that Paradis converses with their children, Lily-Rose and Jack, in her native tongue, but they have to speak to him in English.

ZeeNews – Johnny Depp claims the secret to his happy relationship with Vanessa Paradis is that they never speak about Hollywood.

He said: “We have a miraculous understanding of one another – and we don’t ever talk about the business. We don’t talk about her work or my work. So our life in that sense is very simple.”

Depp – who has previously dated a number of famous beauties, including supermodel Kate Moss – also claims the reason he and Vanessa are so happy is because they are best friends as well as lovers.

He added: “We are great, great friends and are very much in love.”

LOS ANGELES – MSNBC – Johnny Depp has the write stuff when it comes to signing autographs while Cameron Diaz is the worst, according to a new list Friday from Autograph Collector magazine.

Depp, followed by George Clooney, topped the magazine’s 14th annual survey of Hollywood’s best and worst signers. The “Pirates of the Caribbean” star also was rated best last year.

“Many stars become bad signers once fame and fortune hits, but not Depp. He’s even signed autographs for crowds at the airport while carrying luggage,” said Steve Cyrkin, editor and publisher of the Santa Ana, Calif.-based magazine.

Los Angeles Times – The ‘Caribbean’ star has W. Hollywood officials on legal gangplank over plans for a retail project he says would ruin one of the vistas at his estate – By Bob Pool, Times Staff Writer.

The “Pirates of the Caribbean” star is in a legal sword fight with city officials who have authorized a Sunset Strip construction project that he insists would ruin a scenic view from an area of his $5.4-million Hollywood Hills property.

The megastar contends in a lawsuit that the city violated environmental-quality laws by approving development of retail shops, a restaurant and a parking structure on a lot beneath his gated, 2 1/2 – acre estate.

Depp asserts that the project would block the view his two children have while playing outside the 7,430-square-foot home.

Backers of the development dispute that. They say that Depp has declared that the youngsters – Lily-Rose, 6, and Jack, 4 – will be raised in France, where he and French actress and singer Vanessa Paradis live.

It was unclear Friday how much time Depp and his family spend in Los Angeles. He has been spotted in Hollywood-area restaurants recently, and post-production is underway on the second installment of his popular pirate series, scheduled for release this summer. He is known to also have a home on a Caribbean island.

Depp could not be reached for comment. His attorney declined to discuss the case and his publicist did not respond to inquiries.
