Charlie wins People’s Choice Award!

CNN.com – Congratulations to all the cast and crew of CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY, which won the People’s Choice Award for Favorite Family Movie presented last night at the Shrine Auditorium and broadcast live on CBS. CHARLIE beat out other little tyke’s favorites Chicken Little and Madagascar. The three films were determined by editors at Entertainment Weekly, the People’s Choice production team and a panel of pop culture fans. Winners were chosen by the public voting via the Internet.

Congratulations to Tim Burton, Johnny, Freddie Highmore, and all the cast and crew of CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY on this well -deserved award.

Oscar visual effects nomination for CATCF

Beverly Hills, CA – Tim Burton’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is one of seven films being considered for nomination in the category of Achievement in Visual Effects for the 78th Academy Awards announced today by The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Other contenders listed in alphabetical order are: BATMAN BEGINS, THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA, HARRY POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE, KING KONG, STAR WARS EPISODE III: REVENGE OF THE SITH, and WAR OF THE WORLDS.

The nomination procedure will consist of the Visual Effects Award Nominating Committee screening 15-minute clip reels from each film, then voting for three to be considered for Oscar consideration. Film Clips will be screened on Wednesday, January 25 with official nominations announced on Tuesday, January 31, 2006, at 5:30 a.m. PST, in the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater.

The 78th Academy Awards will be presented at the Kodak Theatre March 5, 2006 and will be televised live by the ABC Television Network beginning at 5 p.m. PST.

The Advertiser Adelaide (Scene) Awards were announced last evening at an exclusive party and awards ceremony held at the Sugar nightclub in Rundle St. (Austraila) Johnny Depp was awarded ‘best actor’ for his role in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Cate Blanchett, the Foo Fighters and local band Hilltop Hoods also won awards.

“The Adelaide (Scene) awards honors the best in music, film, fashion and venues and is voted on by Adelaide (Scene) readers. More than 500 people voted to determine this year’s winners. “The Adelaide (Scene) awards gives something back to our best entertainers, particularly the local industry that works tirelessly to promote our state and the best it has to offer,” said Advertiser editor Melvin Mansell.

2005 ANNIE AWARD NOMINATIONS ANNOUNCED

ASIFA-Hollywood – The nominations for the 33rd Annual Annie Awards have just been announced and feature the year’s finest animation in film, television, short subjects and gaming.

Corpse Bride is up for Best Animated Feature. Also nominated this year is Carlos Grangel who created Victor Van Vort, for Best Character Design in Animated Feature. Both Tim Burton and Mike Johnson are nominated for Best Direction of an Animated Feature.

It was already announced that Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride has won the prestigious juried award, the Ub Iwerks Award, honoring excellence in technical achievement.

The Annie awards will be presented at Alex Theatre, the former Alexander Theatre, a Vaudeville and motion picture house featuring Greek and Egyptian motifs which opened in 1925.
