Johnny, the fossil.

General by Martina
see the similarity?
see the similarity?

Only a few weeks before Johnny’s 50th birthday, a 505 million-year-old fossil with “scissor hand-like” claws has been named after the  Johnny Depp.

Kooteninchela deppi (pronounced Koo-ten-ee-che-la depp-eye) was named by the researcher David Legg after Johnny because of his starring role as Edward Scissorhands.

Mr. Legg can be forgiven – who can evade Johnny’s impact?

“In truth, I am also a bit of a Depp fan and so what better way to honour the man than to immortalise him as an ancient creature that once roamed the sea?”

(wasn’t that Captain Jack Sparrow already?)

A Disney casting notice confirms that Johnny Depp has officially signed on to play the lascivious Wolf in Rob Marshall’s upcoming film of Stephen Sondheim’s award-winning fairy-tale themed musical – “Into the Woods”. Meryl Streep will play the self-serving — if not quite wicked — Witch.  British actor James Corden will play the Baker. The plum role of the Baker’s Wife is yet to be cast. Rob Marshall will begin filming the adaptation in London in September.

Into the woods getting more probable

Projects by Martina

Though still a rumour, there is already an audition and casting information for “Into the woods”, being shot in the United Kingdom, read the announcement here for more info.

“Into The Woods” intertwines the plots of several Brothers Grimm fairy tales such as from “Little Red Riding Hood,” “Jack and the Beanstalk,” “Rapunzel,” “Cinderella”, etc., and follows them to explore the consequences of the characters’ wishes and quests. The plot tells the story of a baker and his wife who desperately want children and in attempt to lift a family curse, they decide to strike a deal with a Witch who cast the spell on them. She promises to give them a child if they can bring her the cape of Little Red Riding hood, the milky-white cow of Jack (of beanstalk fame), the slipper of Cinderella, and some of Rapunzel’s golden hair. In order to do so, the baker must travel into the dark and mysterious woods and battle a Giant (again of beanstalk fame) who threatens to destroy the entire village.

I was in attendance the other night at an event with Stephen Sondheim and he, at least, confirmed Johnny’s participation in Into the Woods as the wolf. He said rehearsals were to begin this summer with filming to begin this fall in London as mentioned here earlier.

We have yet to see, how this will work with Black Mass also waiting to be filmed.
