Burton on Burton Excerpt: ‘It felt like our brains were connected by a blistering hot wire’

Articles by Martina

This is an an excerpt from the newly updated third edition of Mark Salisbury’s BURTON ON BURTON published by Faber. The book sells for $14.99 and is currently available at AmazonUk.

Johnny Depp explains his special relationship with Tim Burton

The Guardian – Many a moon has passed since the days of my brief brush with TV stardom, or whatever one might dare call it. I mostly think of them as the do-or-die years: picture, if you will, the confused young man hurtling dangerously towards the flash-in-the-pan at sound-breaking speed. Or, on a more positive note, forced education, with decent dividends in the short term. Either way, it was a scary time when so-called TV actors weren’t eagerly received into the fickle fold of film folk. Fortunately, I was more than determined – even desperate – to break away from my ascent/descent. The chances were nearly impossible, until the likes of John Waters and Tim Burton had enough courage and vision to give me a chance to attempt to build my own foundation on my own terms. Anyway, no time to digress… this has all been said before.

General by Martina

Ninemsn.com – Following yesterday’s story on Scarlett Johansson being voted the World’s Sexiest Woman, ninemsn asked its readers who they thought was the hottest man alive – By ninemsn staff.

The convincing winner was offbeat actor Johnny Depp, famous for wearing goofy hats and glasses, who looks like the sort of guy who wouldn’t care if people thought he was hot or not.

In second place on our hottest man poll was George Clooney. In third place was Matthew McConaughey, 36, who was also voted sexiest man alive by People magazine in 2005. Rounding out the top five are Brad Pitt in fourth and Orlando Bloom in fifth place.

Johnny Depp books South Border for gigs at Viper Room

General by Martina

Manila Standard Today – The biggest buzz in the music circuit is South Border’s imminent move to Los Angeles. This is largely unconfirmed, but band aficionados have been talking about it – By Isah V. Red.

Why move when things are still A-OK with them here in their beloved country?

Apparently it is an offer difficult to resist, for after all it’s no less than the very eccentric Johhny Depp (Pirates of the Caribbean, Secret Window, What’s Eating Gilbert Grapes, Nick of Time, and many more) who wants them in The Viper Room, the famous bar on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood that is partly owned by Depp.

So, how did Depp know about South Border?

This one’s a little hazy, but he might have picked up an album somewhere, or got interested in the name and downloaded a tune from Napster and found them interesting he asked his guys to get in touch with the band. That’s as far as the tale goes.
