Johnny: A Look Back at His Time in the Wizarding World
As dedicated fans, we cherish every moment Johnny has shared with us on screen, including his portrayal of Gellert Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts series. Recently, he opened up about the challenges he faced during his time working on these magical films.
Johnny recalls the surprising moment when he was asked to resign from his role, highlighting how it felt like everything came to a halt in an instant. “It literally stopped in a millisecond while I was doing the movie,” he stated, adding that he felt as if they wanted him to retire from acting altogether.
In November 2020, Warner Bros. announced that Johnny would be departing from the Fantastic Beasts franchise. They expressed gratitude for his contributions, paving the way for a recast of his iconic character.
Reflecting on this significant moment in his career, he famously remarked, “F— you. There’s far too many of me to kill. If you think you can hurt me more than I’ve already been hurt, you’re gravely mistaken.”
Johnny first introduced audiences to Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and continued his journey in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. The character went through a transformation as he was portrayed by Mads Mikkelsen in the series’ final installment, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore.
For a long time now, Johnny Depp has been delivering mesmerizing movie performances. This has seen him bring his talents to a list of iconic roles – from his breakthrough turn as Edward Scissorhands to Ichabod Crane, Gellert Grindelwald, Captain Jack Sparrow and more.
One thing that really hooks people into the actor’s films is the rebellious and exciting feel many of them have. Nothing sums this up better than Depp’s most famous movie scenes that involve risk and chance.
Let’s take a closer look at just which scenes like this stand out most, and see his character risking it all on the silver screen.
1998’s Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas easily stands out as one of Johnny Depp’s most memorable movies. Based on the book by Hunter S Thompson, it’s full of visual flourishes, creative storytelling and garish colors. Depp seems to really enjoy playing Raoul Duke and brings his usual charisma to the role.
One memorable scene involving risk sees Duke staggering through a circus-themed casino with his friend Dr Gonzo, high on drugs. They risk financial ruin while playing under the influence and also risk the wrath of other casino patrons who they manage to upset. It also sees them risking their own sanity, as they try to work out if what they’re seeing is real or just an illusion created by their addled minds!

Johnny’s Perspective on the #MeToo Movement
In a recent interview, Johnny opened up about his experiences during challenging times, reflecting on his feelings about being perceived as a “crash test dummy” within the #MeToo movement. He’s shared that he absorbed a lot of the sentiment surrounding this pivotal cultural shift, remarking on how it has impacted not only him but many within the industry.
At 62, Johnny expressed that navigating the complexities of public perception has been an eye-opening journey. He mentioned feeling let down by some individuals he once considered friends, who chose not to stand by him during difficult moments. This sense of betrayal resonated deeply, particularly as these were people who had been part of his life for years.
While discussing these challenges, Johnny highlighted that he had met countless figures in the entertainment world, many of whom played it safe, showing hesitance to take a stand. His reflections speak volumes about the pressures actors face and the need for authenticity in such a high-stakes environment.
The #MeToo movement, which has transformed conversations around harassment and abuse, began in earnest around 2017, giving voice to survivors and encouraging accountability. It’s a significant topic in today’s cultural landscape, and Johnny’s perspective adds a unique layer to the discussion, reminding fans of the importance of support and understanding in these sensitive dialogues.
As we celebrate Johnny and his illustrious career, it’s essential to acknowledge the broader conversations happening in society that touch upon themes of justice,
