Kywoman’s Encounter

Meeting all the celebs was exciting, having never done this sort of thing before, but watching Johnny making his way down the red carpet was surreal. I was very pleased to have been able to see him so close and actually have words with him. I had my beaded danglies that I made him and my Fear and Loathing book all ready to go. When he got to me, I opened the book to where I wanted him to sign and the danglies were laying there in a silk, see-through pouch. I told him I made them for him and he looked through the pouch at them and then looked up at me smiling (with that gorgeous ‘golden’ smile) and said “Ah, swag.” He took them and handed them to an assistant, then thanked me and I asked him to sign my book. While doing that I told him that he did a wonderful thing for Hunter Thompson and his family (referring to the funeral ‘send off’ at Woody Creek) and he said ” He was a good man.” After he signed my book, I thanked him again and he said “Thank you for coming and being here today” , said while his hand was over his heart. All the while he was calm, in the moment and only paying attention to you, making wonderful eye contact *sigh* before moving on. I just stood there and watched (and took pics) as he continued down the red carpet. A moment I won’t soon forget.

Michelle’s Encounter

My friend and I arrived at 6:30 in the morning. We made a made dash to score our spot on Main Street in front of the train station. It was a sweet
spot because none of the cast would have to deal with interviews (the cameras were further up)

We met some terrific people, we played Pirates Monopoly and just chilled (or sweated to be more accurate) until 5pm. The big moment finally arrived (for
me) when Orlando stepped onto the red carpet. I made a vow to myself if I could only get one autograph it would be his. He made his way over, first
he signed my book, then he headed to the other side. He came BACK to our side, I called out “Orlando!” He looked over, smiled and asked how I was. I
said fine. He saw my camera out, took it, and leaned in to snap a picture with me. I made sure to rest my hand on his shoulder.

Then Johnny made his way down surrounded by cameras. The girl behind me was a Johnny fan, she kept shoving me into the barricade. I tried pushing her
back, but she kept fighting with me. I yelled out I couldn’t breathe, so by the time Johnny got in front of me, I wanted to cry and I wasn’t sure what
was going on. I know he was right there, and I couldn’t get a good clear shot of him due to hands,

Johnny Fanatic’s Encounter

Part 1:

My dad and I arrived at Disneyland a little past 4:30 am. There were about 200 people there already…I couldn?t believe it! A Disney employee gave a big speech for about 10 minutes with instructions on how the red carpet arrivals would work. I looked in all the lines for people from the Zone until 6:30, and I looked again later on in the day by the barricades near the red carpet, but I couldn?t find anyone with the Zone ?identifier?, so I gave up eventually. I am really disappointed that I didn?t get to meet any Zoners! I was able to meet up with some fellow Johnny fans from JDR though.

By the time the gates opened at 6:30, there were hundreds of people in line behind us. At 6:30, once the gates opened, people started going crazy. We were told repeatedly by Disney employees ?not to run,? but nobody listened. Everyone was running! We found a spot by the red carpet that was right next to the barricades, relatively close to the main entrance of the park. A couple hours later, we realized that we would be directly in front of all of the TV cameras! MTV, VH1, The Insider, E!, Access Hollywood, CNN, etc. were all located right across from us. Throughout the (LONG!) afternoon, camera crews were going up and down the red carpet, interviewing fans and taping us screaming as loud as we could. I was only interviewed by one TV crew,

LuvDepp’s Encounter

It was fun, exciting, hot, tiring and after more than 12 hours of waiting, incredibly worth every minute! Everyone waiting was polite and gracious and it was fun talking and hanging out with other fans who were just as excited as we were. Disney did a great job of keeping things under control and tried to be informative about what was happening and when. Kiera, Orlando, Jerry and Gore, were all gracious with the fans. Johnny of course was the last one down the red carpet. He took his time with the fans and really seemed to be able to focus on the person in front of him, if only for a few seconds. You really do feel like you have his complete attention, if only for that one incredible moment. It will be a moment that I will never forget. He signed my Newsweek, I told him thank you and he looked at me with those gorgeous brown eyes and I felt like my knees would give out, they were knocking so badly. He said “Thank you so much for being here”. It will be a moment that I will never forget and will relive over and over in my mind.

Charlene’s Encounter

It was surreal and just as everyone earlier on this thread has said. I really had no expectations that he would get to our little group, as it was just the luck of the draw when a celebrity came your way. He did, however, seem to get into a groove on our side. I have a tiny little video of him coming down our side, then I put the camera away in order to get my “stuff” ready.

Hmmmm, how do I put this….I think I went into a total daze…..all I know is he appeared in front of me, and we spoke and then I had him sign the cover of my F&LILV jacket, and the front of Newsweek. Then he moved on to zoners on my right……but I had a glossy pic of his head Susanne had given me to get signed (him kissing Kiera in POTC2 ~ only Susanne had lopped off Kiera, LOL) and I held it out and said Johnny please sign this for Susanne….and after he signed for some zoners and people behind us, he turned and signed Susanne’s pic. Then he switched sides.

As to the “moment”, I am just kicking myself for not “focusing”. For one thing, I forgot to take my sunglasses off. KYWoman had even said earlier, now everybody don’t forgot to take your glasses off so you can look him in the eyes, but it got so crazy at the end, and then dusk set in,

Nancy (DeppInTheHeartOfTexas)’s encounter

After seeing and having short conversations with Gore, Keira and Orlando, who were all VERY gracious and appreciative, we knew Johnny would be the next on the red carpet. We finally caught a glimpse of his gray hat and dark hair as he signed for fans on the opposite side and slowly made his way up the red carpet. He crossed over to our side and my heart skipped several beats waiting for him to work his way down the line. I just knew he would cross back over before he got to us! Then he was three people away?two people away?right next to me? and then there he was, directly in front of me. The gray hat, dark – almost curly – hair, black shirt, purple glasses, leather cuff, sparrow tattoo? I had brought my copy of the William Sarroyan Reader for him to sign. The Time of Your Life is in the book and we had read it at ONBC two years ago. The prologue is one of Johnny?s favorite literary passages. I told him the book was from Oprah Noodlemantra?s Book Club and he looked up and said ?Oh, wow!? He signed the book and said ?You certainly can?t go wrong with Sarroyan.? I said thank you, he smiled that golden toothed smile, and moved to sign for Liz. (picture).

I don?t know how he has the ability to focus directly on the person he is signing for with all the hoopla and noise that surrounds an event like this.

Liz’s Encounter

I?m back home and ready to tell of my encounter. It was surreal. He got to DITHOT (DeppInTheHeartOfTexas from JDZ and my co-moderator there on the Oprah Noodlemantra?s Book Club forum) before me. We both had him sign the same thing? The Saroyan Reader. But I?ll let her tell that story. She said most of it and then I froze after he signed my book and only said, ?thank you? as our eyes met (He always looks fans straight in the eye). He responded with ?No. Thank you.? He lingered in front of me while signing autographs for fans behind me. I should have been taking pics but decided to take in the man instead, studying the Jack Sparrow tattoo, his leather cuff and his ?3? along with admiring his swags. He has a very delicate build and a gentle & gracious demeanor. And for those who are still wondering what he smells like–I did smell something that was not there prior to his being in front of me. It was some sort of cologne. And it disappeared as soon as he left. The pic below is the best I got. You can see a blurred Johnny and DITHOT?s hand and her book?just prior to his signing it.

It was quite fun seeing all the other stars?especially Joanne Worley, Orlando, Keira, the other pirates and my governor (I was a big Terminator fan). I ditto what those have said about Disney doing a good job of hosting the premiere.

NEWSWEEK COVER: The Pirate in Johnny Depp

Johnny Depp Says Talk That He Sold Out to Commercial Success Didn’t Worry Him: ‘If I Was Going to Do Something, It Had to Be on My Terms … Because I Don’t Want to Live a Lie. You Really Don’t Want to Look Back on Your Life and Go, ‘I Was a Complete Fraud”

In a Press Release by Newsweek posted on Sunday, June 18, 2006, Senior Writer Sean Smith interviews Johnny for the June 26 cover story. Tom Cruise and Commercial Success now they go together. But Depp and Commercial success? Not before Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl which grossed $653 million worldwide, made Depp a $20 million man and earned him an Oscar nomination.

Smith writes that it was Depp’s desire to make a movie for his kids that led him to “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl,” but studio executives were nonplused when they began to see the footage of Depp in character. Initially conceived as a young Burt Lancaster, Depp had reimagined Capt. Jack Sparrow as a debauched, vain, slightly fey rock star, inspired by Rolling Stones icon Keith Richards and cartoon skunk Pepe Le Pew. “The studio was, like, ‘Is he gay? Is he drunk? We don’t know what he’s doing!’,” says producer Jerry Bruckheimer. “It took a little while to calm everybody down.”

Depp’s off-kilter performance, of course, was the very thing that catapulted “Pirates” into a cultural phenomenon.

Depp Says He Just Likes Living in France

Uncategorized by Martina

NEW YORK Jun 18, 2006 (AP)- Johnny Depp says the media’s perception of him as a European wannabe has been exaggerated, and that he just likes the anonymity of living in France.

Both FoxNews.com and ABCNews.com posted an article on Johnny in this week’s issue of Newsweek. It’s the freedom of anonymity that Depp loves about France; the freedom to go out without reporters and flashbulbs popping, the freedom to eat without the pointing and whispering of others nearby.

And if public life is much quieter for Johnny and Vanessa, so too, it seems is their personal life. Depp says, “I’ve always loved it there. “The phones don’t ring as much. Movies are never brought up in conversation. I’ll take the kids and we’ll go out to the trampoline and the swing set, and we’ll stop by the garden and see how our tomatoes are doing. You know, old-fart stuff. Good stuff.” [more…]
