JOHNNY DEPP LIVES A PIRATES’ LIFE EVEN OFF CAMERA

Uncategorized by Martina

In his exclusive interview for If Magazine Contributing Writer EMMANUEL ITIER talked with Johnny about playing Jack Sparrow in the Disney blockbuster sequel PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MAN’S CHEST. An excerpt follows:

iF: And how was it kissing Keira Knightley?

DEPP: Oh the smooch. Well those things are always so awkward especially because Keira and I have never been in that kind of situation together. She’s three and I’m a thousand. I’m Methuselah and she’s a toddler. There was that, but more than anything, we’ve known each other for a couple of years and suddenly it was, "Are you ready for this?" And you just kind of do it. It becomes more like a stunt in a way. "Where’s my double?" She was a great sport about it. She was really sweet.

Johnny Depp a box office magnet

Uncategorized by Martina

CNN.com.

… It’s Johnny Depp’s Jack Sparrow — the drunken buccaneer famously modeled on the Rolling Stones’ Richards — who may have propelled “Pirates” to the all-time largest opening box-office gross.

“With this quirky characterization, he still has maintained his complete artistic credibility while appearing in maybe the most commercial movie of all time, given this opening record,” says Paul Dergarabedian, president of box-office tracker Exhibitor Relations.

Depp is clearly a great draw for moviegoers. “He set it apart,” the film’s producer, Jerry Bruckheimer, told the AP. “Disney movies prior to `Pirates’ were for young kids. When you put his name on it, people go, ‘Wait a minute, there’s something strange here. We better check this out.’ “

Since a third “Pirates” movie was filmed at the same time as the sequel, Depp will likely continue to add to his newfound clout as not just a well-regarded actor, but a bankable movie star — an increasingly endangered species in today’s Hollywood…

Johnny Depp lifts ‘Chest’ on his back

Uncategorized by Martina

JOAN E. VADEBONCOEUR, entertainment columnist for the Post-Standard writes “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” delivers everything that a summer blockbuster should be and then some.

On the otherhand, she feels the movie lacks enough screen time with the Disney fan’s favorite scruffy pirate: Captain Jack. She says, “Too often, Depp is off and leaves the heavy-duty stuff to Bloom and Knightley. Two characters designed as comic foils are needless baggage. More Depp would be much more preferable.”

Pirates Sequel breaks record

Uncategorized by Martina

Los Angeles – Preliminary estimates released by Disney show that “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” earned $55.5 million on Friday, which would set the record for the largest one day take at the box office. The previous record was set last year by “Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith,” which grossed about $50 million.

The movie was shown on 4, 133 screens, beginning at midnight Friday. Only 2004’s “Shrek 2” and “SpiderMan 2” debuted on more screens.

Disney also received reports of continuous sellouts and requests to add more screens at multiplexes. “We’re obviously thrilled beyond belief. Anytime you break an industry record…the word ecstatic comes to mind.” said Chuck Viane, head of distribution at Disney.

The red carpet was not very big, it was oin a small part of the sidewalk so, everybody had time to sign autographs ! We have autographs of Orlando, jerry and Vanessa who was there !!! and of course most important autograph of Johnny !!! My daughter chose a pic of Rafael and I thought it was a good choice but when he signed it, looked at me and gave me a big smile….I was undone !!!! I don’t really know after…I think he said something like “merci” or “thank you”…not sure …I managed to say “merci”….I’m sure he was surprised and perhaps happy to see a pic from The Brave…
It was so easy in the end, I still can’t believe it !

Oh ! He was wearing a black shirt, black pants, no hat but sunglasses !

There was also Vanessa’s sister, but she arrived earlier, not with them. We saw Jean Rochefort also, but he was in a hurry obviously !…etc…other French celebreties…

When I think about it, it was really great that the red carpet was not so long…I’m sure that everyone who wanted an autograph got it !….Many fans of Orlando too and he was also very sweet.

Jerry Bruckheimer was perhaps a bit “nervous”…don’t know…but not smiling a lot. At the begining a lady told us that they were arriving and that it would be nice if we could ask autographs to Jerry also…lol…(which we did…of course…) I found it funny….

INTERVIEW: Johnny Depp on “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest”

Uncategorized by Martina

Cinema Confidential – by Ethan Aames. Depp reprises his role in “Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Man’s Chest,” the first of two sequels to the 2003 smash hit.

Q: Did you rewatch the first movie [Pirates of the Caribean: Curse of the Black Pearl] to get back in his frame of mind?

JOHNNY: No. God no. For a while there, not so much these days because they’ve seen it a bazillion times, my kiddies were watching “Pirates 1.” They’ve taken a break from that and have moved to “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” for a while and now my son’s going to “Spider-Man” and things like that.

Q: Does that change the relationship at all when your kids start watching your movies?

JOHNNY: Not as much as you might think because to them, it’s normal. It’s all they’ve ever known. It’s seeing Papa on television or on the DVD cover. It’s not weird to them at all. They can go from watching the movie to the dinner table and not mention the film at all.

I’ll never EVER forget this day

Uncategorized by Martina

The day before, I tried not to get my hopes up at all, because so many people have been to premieres and not even seen him. I didnt want to be let down badly so I just looked at it as just a chance.

We were looking to get there at about 7 in the morning but we arrived at 9 so I was worried we weren’t going to be anywhere near the front. It was already quite busy there and we were looking for a place to stand. We walked past the entrance and went into the crowd. I ended up on the 2nd row which wasn’t what I’d hoped but it was better than nothing. The guards were moving the barriers around so we were shuffling around a lot, and about 15 minutes later they moved one and I saw this space at the front about 2 meters away. I literally dived for it and I got in and I was so happy. I had a perfect view of the space where they would be arriving and signing. I turned round to my mum and my mate with this massive grin on my face. 🙂
We were stood there for about 9 hours, and it is so damn uncomfortable. I was determined not to lose my space, so I didnt sit down, go to the toilet, go to get food or drink. I just stayed put and my back and feet killed.
