Review of The Astronaut’s Wife by Claudia Depp

Uncategorized by Martina

“Now you just keep quiet, and you rest. I’m here with you. I’m always going to be here Jillian. Always.”

The Astronaut’s Wife was a film I saw for Johnny Depp, and that reason only. If he wasn’t included in this cast then I would have no intention of watching this, and I had low expectations despite the fact that it has in my eyes the greatest actor of all time included in the cast. It was a pleasant surprise for me when this film ended and I gathered my thoughts, as I realized that it wasn’t actually half bad. Sure, there are some flaws and things I disliked about The Astronaut’s Wife, but it has proven to be a pretty decent thriller.

Johnny Depp is Spencer Armacost, an astronaut who loses contact with NASA when on a mission at the beginning of this suspenseful film. For those two minutes it becomes a mystery as to what really happened, but it is stated by NASA that an explosion occurred while repairing a satellite. Meanwhile Spencer’s wife, Jillian, and his partner’s wife are left in confusion and emotions about what happened, and the viewers know no more than they do about what has happened. Shortly after the astronauts are rescued, and safely returned back to earth. The news is all good for Spencer, but for the other astronaut there comes some bad news not long after the pair’s return to Earth.
But that is only the start of the complications.

The Libertine Review by Claudia Depp

Uncategorized by Martina

“I don’t mean to upset people, but I must speak my mind. For what’s in my mind is far more interesting than what’s outside my mind.”

The Libertine is one of Johnny Depp’s finest performances, and overall a simply brilliant movie. From it’s more disturbing yet striking scenes to it’s powerful and unique story; I couldn’t wish for anything more from this movie.

Taking place in the 17th century, The Libertine centres around the life of John Wilmont, aka the Earl of Rochester. He is a corrupt, drunk and sexually active cynical poet, who has a distinctive love for the theatre. As the film goes on, we are witnessed to his reputation of being liked by the ladies, drinking, shagging and his sexual play. This usually wouldn’t be a movie that I would choose to watch, but Johnny Depp made it an instant must-see for me, and I am now very happy and pleasantly surprised with my verdict.

Johnny Depp has given one of his best performances in The Libertine, once again showing what an incredible actor he is and what versatility he has between his various acting roles. John Malkovich has another exceptional movie added to his filmography, while there were other great performances from Rosamund Pike, Jack Davenport and Samantha Morton.

I highly recommend this movie, even just to see for yourself what it is like. I can’t guarantee that everyone will like it, but it should at least be an interesting experience.

Lost in La Mancha Review by Claudia Depp

Uncategorized by Martina

Normally I wouldn’t pick up a documentary from the video store, but I had heard some great things about Lost In La Mancha.. oh and of course I have to see every Johnny Depp movie. So knowing that I haven’t watched many documentaries, and that the ones I had seen I didn’t particularly like, I had some doubts about this. But I found it really, really interesting and entertaining to watch.

It follows the production and making of Terry Gilliam’s film ‘The Man Who Killed Don Quixote’. Everything that can go wrong does go wrong, every disaster that is possible happens, and we get to watch it all. The terrible weather, the actors late arrival, Jean Rochefort becoming ill… it goes on. But this is really enjoyable to watch. Sure, there were some times where I really felt for Terry Gilliam during this unlikely process of making the movie.. but there are things I just had to laugh at and realised it was a disaster, nothing can change that, so you might as well enjoy watching what happened. It’s a real shame because with a cast like that and from the footage we see in this documentary, it looks like a great film.

After watching this I had a look at the special features disc, and watched the interview with Johnny Depp. The first thing he said about Gilliam is that he is insane, and I agree with him. Johnny also said, and I agree, that it’s a compliment,

Ed Wood Movie Review By Claudia Depp

Uncategorized by Martina

‘When it came to making bad movies, Ed Wood was the best.’

Maybe it was just Johnny Depp doing the striptease in woman’s clothing.. but I really, really enjoyed watching this film. Johnny Depp working together with Tim Burton again, nothing can go wrong with this dynamic duo. Johnny Depp; the talented, brilliant, amazing and good looking actor. While Tim Burton is creative, wonderful, different, sometimes strange.. but together they make the most amazing movies. Ed Wood is no different to the others.

Ed Wood is eccentric, strange yet interesting. Each of Johnny Depp’s characters are different to each other, all with their strengths and weaknesses.. but I found Ed Wood really enjoyable to see on the screen, somehow Tim Burton created him as sometimes loving and caring, and sometimes fun and exciting. This film is all about Ed Wood the director, his movies and his life.

It’s hard to imagine any other actor playing Ed Wood as well as Johnny Depp did, he gave him so much more character and definitely made this movie a whole lot more entertaining. Martin Landau deserves to be mentioned for his brilliant performance, he was pretty much perfect for his role, I couldn’t ask for anyone better. I normally can’t stand Sarah Jessica Parker.. she’s not exactly my favourite actress. But in this I survived watching her, probably only because Johnny Depp was on the screen whenever she was. Jeffrey Jones was a nice addition to the cast,

On the set with Johnny Depp Anne’s Story

Uncategorized by Martina

Trashwire MySpace friend Anne Rakowiecki got to realize a dream when she met Johnny Depp on the Chicago set of his new film Public Enemies. Read her firsthand account and check out her pictures below.
Johnny and Anne
If you would have told me years, months, or even days ago that I would someday be hugging Johnny Depp in a 7/11 parking lot across the street from Wrigley Field at five o?clock in the morning?I would have laughed in your face and asked you what drugs you had consumed that day.

But, on April 4, 2008, it happened.

The story is kind of funny, actually. It all started with 21 Jump Street. That?s not the funny part, though. The funny part is that it all ended with 21 Jump Street.

It was another typical Thursday night; hanging out with my friends Sara and Jessica, watching our favorite late 80?s cop drama. We were joking around about all the silly Jump Street questions we?d ask Johnny if we met him. It was always, ?When we meet Johnny Depp ? because it will happen – we?re going to ask him what his favorite episode is.? We thought this was so funny. Funny because we never, ever, in our wildest dreams, ever thought we would actually get to meet him.

Backtrack to when I first discovered that Johnny would be in Chicago filming a movie. March 12, I believe it was. Jessica told me this through instant message.
