Pirates’ Depp Hangs On To Sparrow

Projects by Martina

Johnny Depp told SCI FI Wire that he’s already having separation anxiety about leaving behind his Pirates of the Caribbean character, Captain Jack Sparrow, as he wraps the second and third films in the series.

“It’s weird, because sometimes separation is more emotional than others,” Depp said at an intimate press conference at the Toronto International Film Festival, where he was promoting Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride. “I remember after [Edward] Scissorhands, and I really feel like a dunce having to say this, but it’s the truth, … I remember the last day of that movie, it had been 89 days or something, and I remember after we did the makeup, I looked into the mirror and thinking, ‘Well, this is it. This is the last time I’ll see you.’ So it becomes very emotional.”

‘Corpse Bride’s’ Depp a Man of Character

Projects by Martina

LOS ANGELES – Who exactly is Johnny Depp? Kids today know the actor for his colorful, Halloween-ready characters such as swaggering pirate Jack Sparrow, eccentric confectioner Willy Wonka and now as the gothic groom with cold feet named Victor. – By Hanh Nguyen – Zap2it.com.

In his latest guise, Depp gives voice to the stop-motion animated puppet hero in Tim Burton’s “Corpse Bride.” While filming “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” for Burton, Depp was called upon to create Victor on short notice. After shooting a scene earlier in the day as Wonka, the actor rushed over to the “Corpse Bride” recording studio where he cobbled together a persona based on a 15-minute grilling session with Burton.

Johnny Depp brings Chocolate Factory to Japan

Projects by Martina

Tokyo, Sept 08: Hollywood star Johnny Depp melted fans` hearts in Tokyo in a promotional event to introduce his latest Tim Burton collaboration “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”.

Even a rainstorm preceding the massive hurricane Nabi could not deter Depp`s Japanese supporters from attending the event for a chance to win a handshake, an autograph or even just a glimpse of the the star.

The Warner Brothers-distributed “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”, with a 150 million U.S. dollar budget, did over 50 million U.S. dollars worth of business in its opening weekend in the U.S. in July. It then went on to take in over 200 million in domestic receipts and another 33 million British pounds in the U.K. Now Warner Brothers hopes to sweeten the pot with added box office honey from Japan.

And with Burton at the helm and Depp onboard Warner Brothers is certain that “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” will find the gold, and with good reason. Depp has long been recognized in the film industry as a unique and talented actor.

Depp adds another quirky candy tycoon to his repertoire of oddball

Projects by Martina

TOKYO — Johnny Depp has often been referred to as one of Hollywood’s chameleons, for his ability to play so many offbeat characters. –
By Chris Betros.

His latest effort, as eccentric chocolate tycoon Willy Wonka, in Tim Burton’s “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” is no exception. With his clip-on teeth and garish make-up, Wonka is another in the 42-year-old Depp’s long line of unique characters, among them Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood, Ichabod Crane, James Barrie and pirate Capt Jack Sparrow.

“Ever since I met Johnny for ‘Scissorhands,’ each time he has been more amazing,” said Burton, 47, during a visit to Japan this week with Depp. “He likes to act strangely and wear funny costumes. That’s the sort of person I like to work with.” For his part, Depp described Burton as someone he can have complete trust in.

Depp, who was last here in 1995 to promote “Dead Man,” received a rousing reception at Narita airport when he flew in by private jet. Nearly 2,000 fans were on hand to greet him, and at his news conference, a couple of hundred waited in vain outside the room. Depp seemed touched by the reception, although he doesn’t give much away.

Johnny Depp, Tim Burton talks film, friendship at Japan promotion

Projects by Martina

Tokyo – The crowds at the airport said it all. Hundreds, perhaps thousands of Japanese fans, mostly women, greeted superstar actor Johnny Depp as he arrived at Tokyo’s Narita Airport. Wearing shades, a brown jacket, t-shirt, blue jeans and a gray hat, Depp smiled and waved as he strode past the overflowing crowd on his arrival in Tokyo to promote his latest film, “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.” – By Daniel L. Smith.

The turnout for the airport arrival was just the first of what appeared to be “Depp Mania” as the actor joined director Tim Burton and producer Richard D. Zanuck in promoting the film’s Japan premiere.

The trio appeared together at a packed press conference, held at the Imperial Hotel, where Depp talked about his role in the film and his relationship with Burton. Burton has been at the helm of two other movies starring the talented actor Edward Scissorhands, and Sleepy Hollow.

“Tim and I talked early on in the process,” Depp said of the discussions the director and actor had about the character development of Charlie Wonka prior to the start of filming. “Once I found him, it was pretty easy to get there,” Depp added.

Johnny Depp told by own son that Willy Wonka’s ‘really weird’

Projects by Martina

TOKYO (AFP) – Johnny Depp has been branded an eccentric for playing a recluse with scissors for hands and a delusional Don Juan. This time his own son is calling him a weirdo for his role as crazy candyman Willy Wonka.

The Hollywood heartthrob said he invited his children to watch him dress up in his slick jacket and top hat to shoot “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” the latest film version of British writer Roald Dahl’s kids classic.

Depp, in Tokyo Sunday ahead of the Japanese release of Tim Burton’s movie, said his three-year-old son was astonished and told his dad, “You are really weird”.

Johnny Depp and Picasso

Projects by Martina

Note: This article has been translated to english using an online translater. It’s original language is french.

Johnny Depp is the one of the actors more scheming of these ten last years. It likes the movie, of course, of the two sides of the movie camera, but it fascinates himself also for the music (it sings, it has a pretty voice), the literature (Antonin Artaud, as it reads in French) and the art (it draws and seen to Picasso an admiration without limits).

Usually stars grumble about talking about their heart blows, putting forward all sorts of reasons more or less convicing. Not Johnny Depp. While in the country for the promotion for his last film, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, he declares himself delighted to be questioned on his artistic tastes. He is not asked to to evoke his favorite painters, specifying how much the emotions, from which that they come, are essential to his work.
