It’s me again! For those of you who did not notice- have a look at your calendar. Rajacero, Martina and I would like to inform you that we fooled you!

No – there was no marriage!

We’d like to thank anyone who had an idea right from the beginning for playing along. Some comments we removed temporarily, because they’d have spoiled the fun way too early.

As every good rumour also this joke contains a few grains of truth.

Yes, Rajaceo and I have been to Plan de la Tour several times, but we’re not there at the moment.

There really is this display around the corner of the town hall.

A “Publication De Mariage” in Plan de la Tour looks exactly like that. It was pretty amusing to read that some even claimed we made mistakes that were none: Officier de l’Etat civil is not the mayor, it’s the registrar. Domicilié/Domiciliée is correct. In French you have a male and a female form of the word.

Last year when Rajacero and I spent our vacation in this beautiful village, Rajacero had taken a photo of a real one that was displayed there. She only changed names, dates and the address. Everything else in this form we left untouched. For those of you who were wondering why this would have been accessible for the public: An announcement like that is mandatory in France. Only in some very specific cases you can get a court ruling to avoid that.

How many of you checked the address on Google Earth??? Well, the address exists, but there you’d find the local school. Of course we would not publish Johnny’s real address here!

The name of the registrar? Also that is a fake. Google finds no person with this name in France. The last name actually means something like “joke” in French.

The only free public WiFi-Zone in that area is indeed the McDonald’s in Sainte Maxime and they are closing at 11p.m. That’s why I published the joke at 10.55 p.m. local time, in case someone would look up the restaurant at Google to research the opening hours.

The only thing we worried about was that Johnny or Vanessa would appear in public at said day. Fortunately they didn’t, though I got an email today and the writer told me that Vanessa, Tim Burton and Helena Bonham-Carter were seen in France, but even that could have matched our story. Unfortunately Vanessa was a bit late when she was seen at the airport in Los Angeles on March 27. 😉

  • Seriously? I’m all for a good joke, but this is just low. It’s not even funny, I mean Johnny wouldn’t even find it humorous. It’s a rumor, and he hates that crap. If the parasites (paps) saw it, yeah that wouldn’t have been pretty. You as a Johnny fan should know this. Change the site like I read you did once, don’t do that. It’s just low and I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one who feels this way. If I am… let me be the prude.

  • I have to agree. This joke seems a bit mean to me, for anyone people were actually fooled, anyway. I know a lot of people assumed it was an April Fools’ joke, but there were also a lot of people who were very happy and excited. I highly doubt they find it very funny. A joke just isn’t meant to be displayed as news.

  • Huh? Every few month we read the same story in the yellow press. The only difference we made was that we had this ‘photo’. I’m sure Johnny and Vanessa are too laughing about this almost permanent rumour – and of course they know the meaning of Fools Day…
Why it was in the News? First and foremost because our News-page and the Index-page are one and the same. If we had put it somewhere else nobody would have noticed it. I don’t know where in your countries those jokes are usually placed, but all over the world newspapers were full of more or less sophisticated jokes today.

  • I understand the whole thing about it being a common “News” item, but it’s different when said by the press. People hardly ever believe them. But when someone finds the news like this, they think it might possibly be true. I’m sorry if I seemed rude in my comment, but I just haven’t been having the best April Fools’ day. And this is part of the reason.

  • You guys are amazing at this April Fools Day stuff! You’re going to have to wait another 2 or 3 years before people forget this one!…all my hopes ginny 😀

  • Oh no! I just paid $30 to have my fex ex shipped to France with my objection to the marriage! ha ha Good one.

  • I agree with Kp and Bekah. If it had been in the general press, or tabloids, it would’ve been scoffed at as just another of the many rumors about him, and his true fans would know better and go on about their business. But to be posted on the front page–the home page of one of his top, best, longest-running, most respected fansites is NOT cool. I was about 98% sure it was an April Fool’s prank, but that 2% nagged at me all day simply because of the source….til I saw the ‘coming clean’ post above the prank post last night. I know his true fans knew it was a prank but tons of other fans completely believed it, were happy and excited for them, and were probably sending them wedding gifts and cards already. His fansites have a hard enough time dispelling rumours and lies about him–they don’t need to be starting even more, IMHO. *steps off soapbox*

  • Exactly, Cyn and Bekah! I think what gets me most is that like you guys pointed out this is probably one of maybe two or three still-updated Johnny sites that are reliable, and the fact that a fan started this is just annoying haha. Even if we figured it was a joke, it would have been bad if the paps had scooped it up then it would have been on this site and he wouldn’t have been pleased that a fan was the source. I think next time, stick to changing the site to a Christian Bale or whatever it was for Fool’s day that one time.

  • Well, I’d say: Next time look at your calendar! 😉 I really don’t understand, why fans take a Fools Day joke (!!) more seriously than Johnny and Vanessa take all the gossip that’s in the press at all other 364 days of a year! I think it would have been worse to photoshop a photo and show Johnny with another woman! We only worked with a rumour that’s as old as the Pleistocene. Btw. most people had thought it was a fake, but they couldn’t tell why. Do you really think that IF they’d marry that we would find something like that??? And to follow your logic: What harm could we have done to Johnny and Vanessa? In case the press would have scooped it up they would have made a fool of themselves because they had taken it from only one source without researching further. If they print it anyway, what would it mean to Johnny and Vanessa? One call to Johnny’s or Vanessa’s publicist. End of story. If it would keep floating around? Well, maybe then it would be harder for the yellow press to refresh those marriage rumours over and over again.

  • I have to agree with Cyn and Bekah on this…very uncool. Yes, I figured it was a prank and never believed it for a second, but you have to remember that there ARE people who will believe anything like that, no matter what it is… and I had people last night IMing me left and right that they had seen it on OTHER Johnny sites… so yeah, it definitely got around, heck it even made it on to Facebook, and I directed my friends who IMed me to your site and the post where you admitted it was a prank. Like I said…totally uncool.

  • I personally don’t think a fan site starting any kind of rumor about JD is funny, but I read somewhere on Facebook where someone said we should take it the way it was meant ‘cuz you didn’t mean any harm. I don’t think you meant any harm either.

So Cyn, I see you are still trying to tell other people how to run their website. How’s that working out for ya? Geesh, I would think after three or four Depp websites you’d give up already.

  • I think we could easily argue about what is a cool or what is an uncool joke. Fools Day jokes are meant to be considered at least for a while as the truth. That’s what this all is about. If people do not question anything that’s released at this day, it’s their own fault.
I really don’t get your complains. Do some of you really think that this FOOLS DAY JOKE would do any harm??? Oh boy! Peoples reactions everywhere were pretty relaxed. Just an example: https://deppimpact.freeforums.org/publication-de-mariage-photo-is-a-joke-t2727.html
Only here I think we have some rather small-minded folks.
There have been a lot more evil jokes in the past all over the world, many of them came from sources that are known as very reliable as for example the good old BBC. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/April_Fools%27_Day) What would you have said if we would have done something like that??

  • Shaman-art, I want you to know that I do not blame you for any hurt feelings or bad reactions there might have been. I know you didn’t mean any harm, and I actually think it was a really well thought out prank. Also, now that I’ve had more time to think about it, I do find the joke pretty funny as well. But I’ve never really liked April Fools’ day, as it’s actually caused me some emotional stress, and I always feel awful after I take something so seriously. That doesn’t really apply to this particular joke, though. I just wanted to let you know that I have no negative feelings towards you; I was just really feeling awful yesterday, and this whole thing just didn’t help. But I’m fine now, and I do appreciate the joke. 🙂

  • Thank you, Bekah! Sometimes a more objective view helps, and of course you are personally hurt if you yourself feel joked at. Two years ago people shouted some really bad words at Christian Bale because I “planned” to change this site into a Christian Bale site, completely in a rage. It is a phenomen.

  • It’s no problem. I would’ve felt awful leaving things the way they were, so I knew I had to post again, really explaining why I got upset. I think what’s worse than feeling bad after being tricked, is having people angry at you for joking in the first place. The last thing I want to do is make anyone feel guilty.

  • @ bekah: get it that way.
there were also a lot of people who were very sad for this news. I think they were soooo happy when they understood they were fooled 😉
maybe alot of people think that way 🙂

  • Martina and Shaman-Art, I’m sorry your April Fool’s Day prank touched a nerve in so many. I’m sure you didn’t anticipate it receiving the amount of negative response it did. I hope it is short-lived.

Thank you for taking the time to visit Depp Impact and leaving a comment. Our membership really is a kind group.

    All my best,
    susan

  • @Cyn and angela: In case you have some personal problems with each other we ask you to discuss them somewhere else.
As I wrote before, we could easily argue about what is a cool or what is an uncool joke. The fact remains that obviously some people can’t take jokes, no matter what it is.
We all know that Johnny himself can laugh about jokes made about himself even if they are insulting (Golden Globes, remember??) and he himself is a well-known prankster. And now you take a joke that’s playing with old and well-known rumours and that’s also not related to your person so personal? Let me quote you Cyn, because it seems you really have a problem with this prank “… especially since that‚Äôs the exact opposite of what Johnny has stood for all his life.” So obviously when it comes to humour, Johnny and you live on opposite sides of the planet. Maybe you should learn to laugh about things instead of taking everything so seriously.

  • I don’t want to get into a debate back and forth about this, but I feel I must at least correct you, shaman: you took what I said completely out of context. Maybe you should go back and re-read my previous comment–I didn’t say it was humor that I disagree with or don’t have or Johnny doesn’t have. I said this: “I‚Äôm not gonna apologize for not following along with the pack and not mindlessly agreeing with what the majority says‚Äìespecially since that‚Äôs the exact opposite of what Johnny has stood for all his life.” Meaning: that just because the ‘kind membership’ at one of his fansites and other commenters here are all patting you on the back for your fantastic prank, doesn’t mean that I’m gonna instantly fall into step with them all, just to go along to get along. IMHO, it was an irresponsible thing to do, especially on the internet, because a lie/hoax can travel around the world so fast and affect so many. It has nothing to do with my sense of humor, since this wasn’t a joke, and wasn’t the least bit funny. It was a prank/hoax, perpetrated on his loyal fans; and the ones who believed it because of the source (where it originated) are probably still licking their wounds. It has nothing to do with Gervais’ insults at the Globes. This is a totally different animal. I have a great sense of humor when something is actually funny. And I’m sorry you feel you have to disparage me personally just because I’m not going along with the pack. I think you are a great artist and I’ve been admiring your work for a long time, and I subscribed to your Youtube channel a few months ago. So I don’t want to become enemies with you over this just because I happen to think differently about the AFD prank than everyone else who is praising you for it.

  • I don’t feel any bad feelings at all at the joke. I think if you admire and respect someone then you should wish the best for them whether you think it is a joke or not if this is what makes them happy.
