Plot Summary
Set in the 1930’s depression era, John Dillinger (played by Johnny Depp) and his gang rule the streets as they raid, pillage and plunder the banks of Chicago. Strangely, though, they are loved by the people, as they took revenge on the very organizations causing the darkness of their time. Mann (director) portrays a refreshing honesty in his film, where he follows the deeper stories of that day’s rock stars, folk hero’s and men of the people. Shot in digital, the audience experiences a closeness to the gangsters like never before, as they are taken on a rollercoaster ride of thrill, action, love, pain and triumph. This film, initiating a changed image of cinema, focusses on the humanity of the supposed villains and questions the true identity of crime and the meaning of victory, ironically at a time when J Edgar Hoover’s FBI program is just getting underway…
