Beverly Hills, CA – Tim Burton’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is one of seven films being considered for nomination in the category of Achievement in Visual Effects for the 78th Academy Awards announced today by The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Other contenders listed in alphabetical order are: BATMAN BEGINS, THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA, HARRY POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE, KING KONG, STAR WARS EPISODE III: REVENGE OF THE SITH, and WAR OF THE WORLDS.

The nomination procedure will consist of the Visual Effects Award Nominating Committee screening 15-minute clip reels from each film, then voting for three to be considered for Oscar consideration. Film Clips will be screened on Wednesday, January 25 with official nominations announced on Tuesday, January 31, 2006, at 5:30 a.m. PST, in the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater.

The 78th Academy Awards will be presented at the Kodak Theatre March 5, 2006 and will be televised live by the ABC Television Network beginning at 5 p.m. PST.
