Tokyo, Sept 08: Hollywood star Johnny Depp melted fans` hearts in Tokyo in a promotional event to introduce his latest Tim Burton collaboration “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”.

Even a rainstorm preceding the massive hurricane Nabi could not deter Depp`s Japanese supporters from attending the event for a chance to win a handshake, an autograph or even just a glimpse of the the star.

The Warner Brothers-distributed “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”, with a 150 million U.S. dollar budget, did over 50 million U.S. dollars worth of business in its opening weekend in the U.S. in July. It then went on to take in over 200 million in domestic receipts and another 33 million British pounds in the U.K. Now Warner Brothers hopes to sweeten the pot with added box office honey from Japan.

And with Burton at the helm and Depp onboard Warner Brothers is certain that “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” will find the gold, and with good reason. Depp has long been recognized in the film industry as a unique and talented actor.
