In a desolate canyon under the scorching sun, a hero faces off against an invincible mountain lion.

Like recreating an old movie.

Johnny Depp and Jean-Baptiste Mondino bring the adventures of Sauvage to the cinema screen, evoking the mythology of the Western.

A tribute to the duels under the blazing sun, reminiscent of the classic Westerns, set against a scorching backdrop of earth and blue tones as far as the eye can see.

The story begins with the warrior resting, as Ry Cooder’s minimalist blues plays.

He pushes his hat over his eyes with his thumbs and glares at the approaching mountain lion. Its long, powerful frame, tawny fur, hypnotizing green eyes and arched brow are the epitome of mountain lion beauty. Is this captivating beast a threat or an ally to our fearless hero? Tension hangs in the air as the mountain lion sniffs out its prey and waits for the moment to strike. Meanwhile, a man calmly takes control of the situation, calmly and motionlessly subduing the beast. Is it a traveling companion or the symbolic hero’s alter ego? Guardian animal and hero move in unison, serenely united, becoming one mystical yet solitary soul.

Fearless and calm.

Jean-Baptiste Mondino’s new, fully cinematic film, Sauvage, is a declaration of love for cinema and the continuation of its enduring legend: a dizzying depiction of vast, untamed lands, wildlife captured in all its raw beauty, and a rock-infused parallel universe where material beauty and inner exploration intertwine.

The film captures the essence of Johnny Depp, who has embodied the fragrance for 10 years with boundless loyalty, sincerity and passion. He exudes the same charm, freedom, tenacity and humour. This intimate role speaks to him and evokes deep emotions. “In the wild, everything is always before you” is a message of hope from Johnny Depp himself. Connected to nature, he urges us to look far ahead, without fear, without looking back. With his eyes fixed on the horizon stretching out before him, he becomes one with the earth – a land of freedom, both material and mystical, full of possibility and where everything has meaning.

Shooting background

A real stage, real pumas, and real stars.

The puma or cougar is an iconic animal of the Americas, one of the most dangerous and elusive wild animals, and another “star” of the film Sauvage.

Naturally, in order to photograph pumas, it was necessary to secure a large natural park and fence off the photographers.

Amidst a burnt field flanked by cinematic black belts, the camera zooms in on the mysterious gaze of a lone cowboy. Jean-Baptiste Mondino pays homage to the legendary Westerns of the 1960s. The film also references film legends such as Clint Eastwood and Sergio Leone, as well as Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, James Coburn and Charles Bronson, all shot by John Sturges. Johnny Depp, wearing a poncho, hat and double holster, rekindles images that lie dormant in the human subconscious in a key scene from a legendary Western film.

Sauvage, masculine freshness, its multifaceted appeal

Sauvage celebrates its 10th anniversary as the world’s best-selling fragrance.* More than a perfume, it has transformed into a legend: a symbol of fresh and elegant men’s fragrance, multifaceted in beauty and power.

Ozone Blue Eau de Toilette is a fragrance that features a whirlwind of Calabrian bergamot, the warm resinous scent of elemi and accents of ambroxan.

Deep Blue Sauvage Eau de Parfum captures the magical moment after sunset when the cool air awakens the earth’s deepest scents. Bergamot intensifies with Indonesian patchouli and sensual vanilla absolute.

The deep blue Sauvage Parfum emanates the scent of a blazing bonfire in the darkness of the night. A rich composition of powerful woody notes, freshened by bergamot and enhanced with a touch of mandarin, enveloped in the bittersweetness of tonka bean and creamy sandalwood.

Inspired by the majestic waterfalls, Sauvage Eau Foult was created by Dior Perfume Creation Director Francis Kurkdjian. A powerful yet refreshing alcohol-free fragrance, it saturates cool spices and lavender with water, anchored by a musky wood base.

*1 According to an NPD integrated panel, Sauvage will be the number one selling fragrance worldwide among all fragrances (women’s and men’s) by 2024.
