It was surreal and just as everyone earlier on this thread has said. I really had no expectations that he would get to our little group, as it was just the luck of the draw when a celebrity came your way. He did, however, seem to get into a groove on our side. I have a tiny little video of him coming down our side, then I put the camera away in order to get my “stuff” ready.
Hmmmm, how do I put this….I think I went into a total daze…..all I know is he appeared in front of me, and we spoke and then I had him sign the cover of my F&LILV jacket, and the front of Newsweek. Then he moved on to zoners on my right……but I had a glossy pic of his head Susanne had given me to get signed (him kissing Kiera in POTC2 ~ only Susanne had lopped off Kiera, LOL) and I held it out and said Johnny please sign this for Susanne….and after he signed for some zoners and people behind us, he turned and signed Susanne’s pic. Then he switched sides.
As to the “moment”, I am just kicking myself for not “focusing”. For one thing, I forgot to take my sunglasses off. KYWoman had even said earlier, now everybody don’t forgot to take your glasses off so you can look him in the eyes, but it got so crazy at the end, and then dusk set in, that I forgot. So, though he was standing right in front of me, talking to me (OMG the voice, the voice), taking the stuff from me, signing my stuff…I can’t remember a fricking thing…other than he was “there”. I was aware of a dark shirt and his calm…and the man is calm and gives every fan his complete attention. I did not focus on “him”, I was focusing on what I wanted to say to him, give him, what he was signing, and thinking ahead of what I needed him to sign, and to take his pic.
Thinking back, I was in such awe of him and respectful of his space that I never ever even thought of touching him. Another thing is, we have all watched so much video of him, poured over so many pictures (I mean do any of us know our own family members mole pattern as well as we know Johnny’s?), listened to his voice so much, that when he stood in front of me, I felt like I knew him, and just wanted to talk to him and have him sign something….it just didn’t come into my head as “stop, I’ve got to focus on his hand, his mouth, his danglies…”. That was my loss for sure. Smack smack smack.
I “smelled” cologne when he approached, but frankly I don’t think it was him…I think it was his handlers.
I did see his handler with KYWoman’s “danglies in a silk pouch” toss the danglies to another handler who was holding a sack (I assume that handoff is what happened with my bag tags)….aka “Halloween pillowcase or pirates plunder bag”…so they all have that handoff thing down to a science. One nice thing is Johnny comes with his own Sharpie, because it becomes a sharpie nightmare with people shoving pens all around you.
So my lesson learned in this is, don’t try to do too many things at once. I was so busy focusing on what I wanted to accomplish if he came my way, that I didn’t focus on the man. Also, take your sunglasses off…I think if I had done that, I would not viewed the whole experience as a dream sequence.
Well, there is always next year. By the way, we had a wonderful time, and it was worth every second in that broiling sun and the long long trip home. Zoners are the greatest.
