According to a recent USA Today article, Jerry Bruckheimer, producer of the Pirates of the Caribbean series, says work on the third installment in the franchise is progressing nicely.
“We shot a lot of Chow Yun-Fat’s stuff already, and we should finish the principal actors by the beginning of November, so we are quite a ways into it.”
At World’s End is slated for a Memorial Day 2007 opening, while the current installment, Dead Man’s Chest, will be released on DVD on December 5, 2006.

Industry observers expect the DVD of the year’s biggest movie to easily be the year’s top seller, with predicted sales of 12 million to 13 million for Dead Man’s Chest.
The Dead Man’s Chest DVD will come out in both a single-disc edition ($30) and a two-disc collector’s edition ($35).
Both DVDs have bloopers and commentary, but the collector’s edition has something extra special for fans – a profile on Mr. Depp.

Fellow Stone Ronnie Wood revealed he was “hard at work on the set with Johnny Depp.” “He said to me: ‘I’m not allowed to shave from now on, so they’re gonna tie little bits on my beard. Whatever bits grow, they’re gonna dangle bits off of it, and the longer it gets, the more they’re gonna tie on’,” explained Wood. “He promised to take a Polaroid as I’m dying to see it!”

Johnny Depp who had to pass a singing test to land a part in musical ‘Sweeney Todd,’ is taking singing lessons from girlfriend Vanessa Paradis to prepare for his new film role.
The film’s bosses have reportedly allowed Vanessa – who enjoyed a successful pop career in the 80s–to take charge of Johnny’s vocal coaching so that he wouldn’t have to leave his family in France to be trained in Los Angeles. Johnny is reportedly “over the moon Vanessa can train him in the studio at their converted barn.”

The upcoming film adaptation of Stephen Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd, directed by Tim Burton and starring Johnny Depp as the relentless demon barber of the title, will begin filming in February of 2007.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, DreamWorks Studios has announced that filming will take place at London’s Pinewood Studios beginning on February 5th.
Besides Depp, no other casting has been announced (although Jim Broadbent has been rumored for the role of Judge Turpin).

The film will be released in both a single-disc version and two-disc collector’s edition. Extras on the single-disc edition will include: “Audio commentaries,” and “Bloopers,” but on the collector’s edition will be: “8 hours of material,” including the extras listed above plus, making of featurettes and more.

Scotsman.com has just announced that the swashbuckler epic “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” has become the third film to pass $1 billion (536 million pounds) at the world-wide box office, distributor Walt Disney Co. said on Saturday.
The film starring Johnny Depp had sold $1.003 billion worth of tickets as of Friday, the company said in a statement. “Pirates,” which has ruled the foreign box office for the last nine weekends, enters its final major market, Italy, on Wednesday.
All told, the sequel has earned $415.1 million in North America, and $587.5 million internationally, the No. 1 film of the year by both measures.
