Johnny Depp Signs First-Look Deal With IM Global

The company will be run by Depp and his longtime producing partner Christi Dembrowski as well as Sam Sarkar and Stephen Deuters.

Johnny Depp’s Infinitum Nihil has signed a first-look deal with Stuart Ford’s IM Global.

The company will be run by Depp and his longtime producing partner Christi Dembrowski as well as Sam Sarkar and Stephen Deuters.

IM Global, whose most recent credits include Mel Gibson’s Hacksaw Ridge and Martin Scorsese’s Silence, is financing and co-producing Depp’s next film, Richard Says Goodbye, one of the hottest sales titles on the market at Cannes. Written and directed by Wayne Roberts, the film is set begin production this summer.

Infinitum Nihil previously had first-look deals at Disney and, before that, Warner Bros.

“Johnny is, of course, a globally recognized superstar but, as importantly, we at IM Global love Infinitum Nihil’s idiosyncratic and taste-driven view of the movie-making world and the unique brand that Johnny, Christi and their team have developed,” Ford said Tuesday in a statement. “We’re building this relationship in order to generate great movies for the global audience with a like-minded creative partner, and with IM Global’s reputation as a company that has enjoyed frequent success greenlighting bold films outside of the confines of the major studio system, I feel certain that our newly extended filmmaking partnership with Infinitum Nihil will be a fruitful one.”

Johnny in New Japanese Beer Commercial

So, the Japanese beer commercial starring Johnny and musician/actor Masaharu Fukuyama has just been released. Unfortunately, Johnny does not speak in it.

It’s also been revealed that the commercial’s storyline looks quite familiar to some because it equals the plot of an episode of former TV show Don’t Trust the B in Apartment 23. Johnny rocks out on his guitar with Fukuyama and their only audience member is a bird. After a while a helicopter appears and they share a beer.

Murder on the Orient Express – CinemaCon Footage

Without words, Michelle Pfeiffer and Johnny Depp give each other the eye in new footage for Fox’s “Murder on the Orient Express.”

The studio unveiled a new trailer Thursday morning at CinemaCon. Daisy Ridley, Judi Dench, Leslie Odom Jr., Lucy Boynton, Tom Bateman, Josh Gad, Derek Jacobi make up a supporting cast for Kenneth Branagh, who stars as Hercule Poirot. Johnny is the murder victim, an American tycoon aboard the train.

“I see evil on this train,” a voiceover intones. The trailer features shots of Ridley, Dench and Odom Jr. in the lavish dining area of the Orient Express. The train soon comes to a screeching halt as Branagh — with blonde hair and a massive grey mustache — begins investigating the murder.

According to a new report, Johnny will play antivirus software pioneer John McAfee in an upcoming movie about his life.

Deadline (via IGN) reports that Johnny will play the part in the movie King of the Jungle, which will focus on his time at his compound in Belize. The movie will chronicle his time with Wired magazine writer on a journey involving “paranoia, machine guns, sex, and murder.”

King of the Jungle will be directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa (Crazy, Stupid, Love, Focus), with a script written by The People v O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story’s Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski. The film does not yet have a release date, nor do we know who will star as the Wired writer.

The hospital holds a very special place in his heart after his daughter Lily-Rose was treated for renal failure there in 2007.

So yesterday he gave poorly kids an early Christmas present, but donning his famous costume and becoming Captain Jack for the day.

One onlooker who saw the 53-year-old star posted a snap on Instagram, and wrote: “This is actual Johnny Depp. Just came in to the hospital. I’m so confused.” Another person added a snap saying: “Yes folks that is indeed Johnny Depp with my lovely niece! One of the few upsides of being stuck in Great Ormond St for Xmas is you get some pretty awesome visitors.”

Johnny has spoken in the past about his appreciation for the hospital, and the treatment Lily-Rose received.

Speaking on The Graham Norton Show last December he said: “For me it’s a gift. They give me the gift.”

He added: “When my daughter was ill in Great Ormond Street, it was the darkest period of my life. I’d always done these visits but after that experience the visits became more and more important.

“The kids are so courageous but to be able to bring a smile or a giggle to the parents means everything in the world to me.”

Johnny Contributes to Film by 16-Year Old Cancer Patient

A group of A-list talent came together in November to help 16-year old cancer patient Anthony Jonathan Conti fulfill his dream of writing and starring in his own film. Johnny Depp, J.K. Simmons, Laura Dern, Penelope Ann Miller, Chad Coleman, and Richard Chamberlain were joined by David Lynch, Catherine Hardwicke, Theodore Melfi, Sam Raimi, Peter Farrelly, and Sean Furst for The Black Ghiandola, a post-apocalyptic zombie story about a young man whose family has been killed and who risks his life to save a young girl he has grown to love. Filming took place November 18-20.

Anthony, diagnosed this summer with stage 4 Adrenal Cortical Cancer, stars in and co-wrote the film with Scott Kosar (Texas Chainsaw Massacre), with additional writing by Wash Westmoreland (Still Alice). The production was made possible by the Make A Film Foundation, a nonprofit established in 2007 that helps children enduring serious or life-threatening medical conditions to create short film legacies by teaming them with industry professionals who volunteer their time.

Open Road Acquires Johnny Depp Crime Thriller ‘Labyrinth’

Open Road Pictures has acquired the crime thriller “Labyrinth” starring Johnny Depp as a detective who investigates the Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G. murders.

Brad Furman is directing with production set to start in mid-November.

Miramax is partnering and co-financing with Open Road Films for U.S. distribution. Good Universe is handling international sales for remaining territories.

“Labyrinth” is an edgy and timely investigative thriller that will make a great addition to our slate,” said Open Road CEO Tom Ortenberg in a statement. “Johnny Depp is perfect for the project and we are thrilled to be in business with him, Miriam Segal, Brad Furman and the rest of the filmmaking team.”

In the pic, disgraced LAPD detective Russell Poole (Depp), is a beaten man, unable to solve his biggest case – the murders of music icons Shakur and The Notorious B.I.G. After two decades, the case remains open. “Jack” Jackson, a reporter desperate to save his reputation and career, is determined to find out why. He tracks down Poole, and the two enter into an uneasy partnership to finally put this case to rest. As Poole relives the unbelievable story of power, corruption and crime, Jackson begins to unravel a growing web of scandal and deception. Relentless in their hunt for the truth, these two broken men threaten to crack the foundation of the LAPD all the while fighting for their own redemption.

Miriam Segal and her Good Films are producing. Christian Contreras is writing the screenplay adapted from Randall Sullivan’s book “LAbyrinth: A Detective Investigates the Murders of Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G., the Implication of Death Row Records’ Suge Knight, and the Origins of the Los Angeles Police Scandal.”

The deal was negotiated on behalf of Open Road Films by Tom Ortenberg, CEO, and Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel, Elliott Kleinberg; and by UTA Independent Film Group and WME Global on behalf of the filmmakers along with Good Universe.
