It is definitely “night” and not “knight” – thus it is written in the book coming with the extended CD version. The night of his birthday. June, nine, as you all know. But it brings also in the nine of diamonds (of a card game) the same time..
The whole block I quoted tells from Johnny’s birth.

I saw what someone put out as the lyrics and I think I get what she is is saying about his work and life. At the end she says ” he wears diamonds on his sleeve”..(just like a king (a knight) of diamonds in a card deck. Johnny is always pulling out something of his sleeve to surpirse us. GOOD ONE PATTY!!!
