Johnny Apologizes for Trump Joke

Johnny has issued an apology for a controversial comment about President Donald Trump, asking, “When was the last time an actor assassinated a president?”

“It did not come out as intended, and I intended no malice. I was only trying to amuse, not to harm anyone,” the actor said in a statement to People on Friday.

Johnny’s joke, in reference to the assassination of Abraham Lincoln by John Wilkes Booth in 1865, was made during an appearance at the Glastonbury Festival. “I want to qualify, I am not an actor. I lie for a living,” he added at the U.K. music festival. “However, it has been a while and maybe it is time.”

Shortly after news broke of Johnny’s comments, the White House issued a statement strongly condemning the joke and calling on others in Hollywood to speak out.

“President Trump has condemned violence in all forms and it’s sad that others like Johnny Depp have not followed his lead,” the statement read. “I hope that some of Mr. Depp’s colleagues will speak out against this type of rhetoric as strongly as they would if his comments were directed to a Democrat elected official.”

  1. Just wanted to relay to him that in my adult life, more conservatives like his Art, than libs, I’ve noticed.
He should come back to his old stomping grounds in sfla sometime.
See what the Don has done with the place.

  2. i was a fan of yours till now wat a piece a shit u r ur career is over ur disresprect for mr trump is insulting if i saw u walking the street i kick ur ass i no lon longer will watch any ur movies fuck u

    1. Hey, everyone’s entitled to their freedom of speech. If someone gets that stupid over a joke, what would they do if it was really meant. Go Johnny! You have just as much a right to speak about Trump as he talked about other groups during his campaign. He put so many people down, it is only fair to give back. It is a joke. FREEDOM OF SPEECH! !!!

    2. Don’t threaten Johnny , by saying that his career will fail, just because they can’t take a joke. Johnny is a gentle soul and would not harm a soul. President Trump in the other hand is harming Native Americans (incidentally the indigenous people!) by going ahead with the oil pipeline in Dakota which will contaminate the water supply . He is alienating Mexicans, Hispanics etc with his racist comments and wanting to build a wall to keep Mexicans out. He forgets that California was once part of Mexico.! Yes he may be a businessman but he is one of the worst US presidents, Andrew Jackson heralded the Cherokee Trail of Tears and Mr Trump is upsetting the Lakota Native Americans with his pipeline. He has also condemned those on low wages / the poor to experinentation / lesser hospitals for the poor who cannot pay insurance for their hospital treatment. In Britain I am proud of our National Health Service.

  3. After enjoying many of your achievements in your career I will return to them no more. Your comments about the President were inappropriate and were disgusting. If you were attempting to be comedic who is laughing. You suck…

  4. The apology is indeed helpful and normally people should accept it.
But it seems that “normal” times are over for Johnny Depp and his fans because there are obviously some people out there who would use anything to destroy his career and reputation – Heard, TMG. maybe some narrow-minded upper echelons at Disney and now – Trump-supporters.

Yes, freedom of speech is protecting that “joke” and maybe dark humour is a good way to deal with Trump when everybody around the world asks about that problem. But the remark was tasteless and from now on it will become much more difficult for Johnny to criticize Trump, his politics and the violence that he brings to discus-sions. And this is more than regrettable.

All in all, for me speaking as a fan, Johnny screwed up his speech without any need – even though I can understand his reaction up to a certain degree – that crowd definitely wanted him to make some strong statement.
But if this mess kills Captain Jack or “Fantastic Beasts” this would make fans suffer and we don’t deserve it, do we?

Nonetheless, I am determined to buy more tickets of POTC 5 – hoping that my favourite franchise will be continued.

And of course, I won’t give up Johnny for a bad joke.
